Chair of the Board of Trustees (Volunteer – Unpaid)
Location: Hybrid (most meetings are virtual, but some in person would be desirable) Commitment: Approximately 10/12 days per annum Term: 4 years, renewable once Closing date: 21st June 2026
About Us:
The Centre for ADHD and Autism Support (CAAS) is to support, educate and empower individuals diagnosed with ADHD or who are autistic, their families and the community. Through raising awareness we change perceptions and break down barriers. We are at an exciting stage of our development and are seeking an experienced, values-driven individual to take on the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees.
This is a voluntary role that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by guiding the strategic direction, governance, and long-term sustainability of the charity.
The Role:
The Chair provides leadership to the Board of Trustees and works closely with the Chief Executive to ensure the charity is well-governed, financially sound, and delivering on its charitable objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing effective leadership to the Board and ensuring it fulfils its legal and strategic responsibilities
• Setting the agenda for Board meetings and ensuring robust, inclusive decision-making
• Acting as a critical friend and line manager to the Chief Executive
• Ensuring strong governance, compliance, and risk management
• Supporting the charity’s strategic development, reputation, and external relationships
• Championing the charity’s values, mission, and beneficiaries
About You
We are looking for someone who:
• Has previous Board-level experience (Chair or senior Trustee experience desirable)
• Demonstrates strong leadership, facilitation, and influencing skills
• Understands the responsibilities and legal duties of charity trustees
• Is able to commit the time and energy required to lead an effective Board
• Shares a passion for our cause and values
Experience in areas such as strategy, finance, transformation, fundraising, health, social care, education, or the voluntary sector would be welcomed, but lived experience and diverse perspectives are equally valued.
Time Commitment:
The role is expected to require:
• Attendance at 6 Board meetings per year (virtually)
• An AGM annually
• A board strategy day annually
• Occasional ad-hoc meetings
• Regular contact with the Chief Executive (virtually and on occasions in person is desirable)
Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with the charity’s expenses policy.
