Chair of the Board of Trustees of Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre

Set in the glorious surroundings of the Forest of Dean, at Viney Hill we have been
offering brilliant activities in a residential setting for over twenty years.

Our mission is to provide inclusive and enriching educational and transformational
outdoor experiences for young people, and groups, that inspire confidence, connection
and personal growth no matter what ability or background; and to value and welcome
all regardless of religious beliefs.

With the recent retirement of the Chair of our Board of Trustees, we are in a new time
of change, and we are seeking to appoint to a new voluntary position as Chair
someone with experience and passion, who will champion us and our vision, strategic
plans, and all we stand for in our next chapter!

Our Board of Trustees comprises representatives of the Diocese of Gloucester (as the
Centre is an independent charity, with the diocese owning the land and buildings and
appointing a number of the Trustees) but also includes Trustees with specific experience
in relevant aspects of running a complex business like ours.

Viney Hill is proud of its Christian and Anglican roots, and is celebrated for its unique
contribution to the life of the Diocese of Gloucester as it serves the whole community.
It is an integral part of the Diocese of Gloucester’s ministry to children and young
people, seeking to make real the diocesan commitment to place children at the heart of
all we do, that all might ‘have life in all its fullness’.

Our new Chair will take the lead in fulfilling that vision. Drawing on their experience and
wisdom, they will be able to link with the deanery and diocesan teams and governance
structures, and guide the Viney Hill Board of Trustees and the Centre’s Leadership and
Management Team.

Our Board of Trustees usually meets on site six times a year (in the early evening on
site, but with online meetings during the winter months) with our May meeting also
including the AGM. In addition, there are several sub-committees including Finance and
Buildings, Health and Safety, Personnel, and others! We have a hugely committed small
staff team and a number of volunteers.

Our Chair of Trustees is the key line manager of the Centre Manager and will be able to
spend time with the Manager and be on site between meetings as a visible presence of
governance and accountability.

This is a voluntary position, but mileage expenses and other expenses directly related
to the role will be offered.

enhanced DBS check will be required.
