Job Description

Job Title: Catering AssistantContract Type: PermanentSalary: £28,860 (pro rata) per annumWorking Hours: Part time 20 hours per weekWorking Pattern: 20 hours spread over 5 days on a rota which will include weekendsLocation: Protheroe House, Haringey

You will improve the quality of life of our customers, building confidence and skills to allow them to live independently while playing an active role in their communities. We are looking for passionate, experienced and community spirited Catering Assistants to help make a difference with our vulnerable customers. You will be part of a catering team required in the front and back of house and providing catering to Prothero House.

About you
We are looking for someone with:
•    Experience of working in a busy kitchen environment
•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills
•    Ability to work calmly under pressure and make quick decisions

Role profile

Food Service 
•    Supervise and provide a breakfast and evening meal service to up to 95 vulnerable customers including :
-    Preparation of continental breakfast and pre prepared evening meals.
-    Regenerating, displaying and serving of food and beverages.
-    Undertaking dining room duties including the setting up and clearing away of the dining and conferencing areas.
-    Ensuring a positive, friendly and welcoming environment for Arlington’s customers.
-    Presentation and setting out of food and refreshments for conferencing events.

Health and Safety 
•    Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards are met in the kitchen and dining areas including:
•    Make sure that chemicals / equipment are used correctly and safety procedures adhered to at all times.
•    Wash up after meals, ensuring all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and, where appropriate, the dining areas) is carried out effectively.
•    Assist with the checking and recording of equipment and food temperatures as directed.
•    Report immediately to the Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a customer, colleague, self or another.
•    Understand and ensure the implementation of Health and Safety, Infection Control and Hygiene policies, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
•    Report to the Manager, or facilities team, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential:

•    Experience of working in a busy kitchen environment
•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills
•    Ability to work calmly under pressure and make quick decisions
•    High standards of cleanliness and hygiene
•    Experience of providing excellent customer service

Desirable:

•    Experience of working in a hostel, care home or school environment.
•    Experience of conference catering and food presentation.
