Are you passionate about helping others and enjoy working in a busy, people-focused environment? We’re looking for a friendly and reliable Casual Centre Assistant to join our team and support the day-to-day running of the centre. This is a varied and hands-on role where no two days are the same. You’ll be welcoming visitors, supporting activities, assisting with donations and food provision, and helping ensure the centre remains a safe, organised and welcoming space for everyone.
About the roleWe are looking for a friendly, organised and community‑minded Casual
Centre Assistantto join our team. This is a varied and rewarding role supporting the day‑to‑day running of the centre, ensuring it remains a welcoming, safe and well‑organised environment for everyone who uses it.Key responsibilities-
Provide a professional first point of contact by responding to enquiries from clients, visitors, colleagues, suppliers and external agencies

Process requests for support, including food parcels, hampers and other centre services

Manage centre donations, ensuring they are collected, sorted and stored safely and efficiently

Welcome visitors, clients and contractors, ensuring sign‑in procedures, security and Health & Safety requirements are followed

Assist in the organisation and delivery of centre activities, sessions and community events

Support the training and supervision of volunteers

Provide assistance within the café when required

Promote the centre locally and nationally, including sharing information and supporting awareness‑raising activity

Carry out a wide range of administrative tasks, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, photocopying, filing, shredding and report creation

Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality is upheld at all times

Help with the general upkeep of the centre, including cleaning and tidying

Work in line with statutory requirements, safeguarding, GDPR, and SVP policies and procedures

Strong customer service experience

Experience working in a fast‑paced environment with varied demands

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office

Understanding of safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and work under pressure

Ability to work independently, use initiative and work effectively as part of a team

Great listening skills and a commitment to treating all clients with dignity and respect

Empathy with, and commitment to, the ethos and values of the St Vincent de Paul Society

Full UK driving licence (desirable)
