St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales) is seeking a committed and reliable
Caretaker and Facilities Assistantto help ensure our centre is safe, welcoming, and well maintained for all who use it. This role is perfect for someone who is practical, organised, and passionate about supporting a charity that makes a real difference in the community.About the RoleAs a Caretaker and Facilities Assistant, you will play a key role in the smooth running of our premises. You’ll contribute to keeping the centre clean, safe, and ready for events and activities, while supporting our team and visitors with a positive, friendly attitude.
Key Responsibilities- Opening and closing the premises for events
- Maintaining the security of the building, including internal and external checks
- Setting up and clearing down events, including moving furniture
- Acting as a point of contact for guests and addressing on-site issues
- Cleaning all areas after events, including toilets, floors, and entrances
- Managing stock levels of cleaning and toiletry supplies
- Carrying out minor repairs and reporting larger maintenance needs
- Conducting routine health & safety checks, including fire alarms and emergency lighting
- Supporting contractors on site
- Assisting with donations, sorting, collections, and deliveries
- Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Safeguarding, and SVP procedures
- Experience with cleaning products and building maintenance
- Ability to handle minor repairs
- Knowledge of health & safety and basic risk assessment
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks
- Reliable, flexible, and attentive to detail
- Empathy for the values and mission of the SVP
- Full clean driving licence
- Experience with stock management
- Knowledge of SVP’s work
- Experience supporting volunteers or working in a public-facing role
