Female Personal Assistant needed in Leominster

I am a disabled woman living in Leominster with an illness which makes it difficult for me to do everyday tasks. I am seeking a reliable and conscientious Personal Assistant to support me with day to day living, social activities, and maintaining my independence.

About the role:

Hours: 2 days a week, 09:00- 15:00 or 09:00 – 16:00

Additional evening and weekend hours are not part of this role but will be available for those who wish to take them on. Weekend hours are 09:00 – 14:00, evening hours would be agreed when needed.

You’ll be working in a lively family home – so a good sense of humour is a must!

Applicants will need to be flexible with good timekeeping to enable me to get to my appointments, you will also need to be able to drive.

You must love dogs as we have recently adopted a new puppy!

I am also currently recruiting for relief workers to support me on an as and when basis.

Job details

Personal care

  • You would be helping me with tasks such as bathing and dressing. This will also include doing my hair and make-up. I also need help from my PA to eat.

Housekeeping

  • My PA will be required to assist with light household duties such as bringing the washing in, putting washing on, making lunches, hoovering and polishing. The PA will also need to assist the lady in becoming more independent with these tasks within her own home.

Shopping

  • I would need you to help me go out shopping for groceries, birthday gifts for my family members etc. I also will have support from my PA to go clothes shopping for myself, when I would like to. I will need assistance out of my vehicle and load and unload wheelchair, bags etc.

Preparation and cooking of some meals

  • You do not have to be a fantastic cook. You would need to wash up and leave the kitchen clean & tidy afterwards. At the moment with the help of my PA, I am just preparing lunches but looking to be able prepare evening meals for my family when they come home from work.

Hobbies and social activities

  • I will need my PA to help me with my confidence by taking me out for regular lunches at places such as garden centre or small cafes. Soon, I want to start swimming. With agreement coming with me on occasional visits to friends, family and on holidays.

Supporting me at various events

  • My PA will need to attend medical assessments, Doctor and dental appointments with me.

Other small jobs

  • I will need my PA to help me with sorting paperwork, letters and responding to emails.

About You

You will need basic maths and literacy knowledge, basic IT skills will also be an advantage. Previous experience of similar work is desirable but not essential, as I will make sure you get the training you need.

You will have both basic cookery and gardening skills as this is something I want to start doing. You will also need to be willing to attend any training needed e.g. first aid, manual handling etc

You must be able to understand the importance of confidentiality, be patient, calm, be a good communicator and have a good sense of humour.

A good attitude to independence is important to understand a disabled person and their choices.

Team work is important as well as being able to work on your own initiative, and have some flexibility to allow for holiday or sickness cover.

You will need to be a car driver/owner and be physically fit enough to undertake any manual handling needed. I do have my own car and training to drive this will be given.

About Direct Payments

Direct payments are available from Local Authorities for people who have a care and support plan in place following a social care assessment. An amount of money is allocated to purchase the assistance and care needed to live independently.

I should stress that I will be your employer and have full responsibility for recruitment, contracts, supervision, pay, training etc. A support service assists me in meeting my responsibilities as an employer.

Salary: This is a flat rate of pay that takes account of unsociable hours and weekend working.

Hours: These are the minimally contracted hours. If I require additional support at other times I will try to give as much notice as possible, an ability to be flexible would be an advantage.
