Our Ambition

Our ambition for 2030 is to ensure that everyone in the Highlands faced with death, dying or bereavement has access to the best care – the right care, in the right place, at the right time. We aim to achieve this by focusing on five priorities: Leadership, Community, Knowledge, Communication and Financial Sustainability.

Highland Hospice offers care, support and advice to people in the Highlands who are living with a terminal illness, approaching the end of life, or experiencing bereavement.

Our approach is based on partnership. We recognise that we cannot support everyone in the Highlands on our own. As well as providing services direct to those in need, we work alongside our NHS and third sector colleagues. We also work with local communities and support professional and unpaid carers by sharing resources and offering training and mentoring, so they can provide the best care they can.

Highland Hospice services are offered free of charge to all those in the Highlands who need them. We are an independent local charity reliant on our community for the majority of our funding.

Highland Hospice has been providing specialist palliative care and related services across the Highlands since 1987. Highland Hospice is a company limited by guarantee and is an independent charity funded mainly by voluntary contributions and NHS Highland. The organisation employs over 200 people and benefits from the support of approximately 900 volunteers.

Membership of the Board of Trustees

Highland Hospice is seeking to appoint new Board Members, with a proposed start in August 2026 who will help us achieve our ambition.

As well as a commitment to the purpose and values of Highland Hospice and an ability to contribute to strategy and governance, we are seeking specific skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Recent or current financial/commercial experience and a qualified accountant
  • Digital knowledge or experience with understanding of the opportunities, challenges and current thinking in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing area.
  • Depth of experience, knowledge and connection with communities and local/national government.
  • Individuals who might like to progress towards Chair roles.

We want our board to be representative and understanding of the communities we serve and welcome interest from across the Highlands

If you are interested in working with our board, but don’t have board experience, we would also be happy to talk with you to discuss how we could support your development.
