Can you recognise the sound of a good reading voice? Do you delight in life giving content which helps people encounter Christ? Are you skilled in audio editing? We are seeking a coordinator to oversee volunteers in producing quality audio for our blind and partially sighted clients. If this sparks interest, read on!
- What’s involved? – Transcribing books, magazines and newsletters into audio with the help of volunteers.
- What’s required? –An appreciation for quality sound, skill in audio editing and an ability to manage others.
- What’s the commitment? – 30 hours/week
NOTE: This role is for UK residents only. Attendance at Torch House will be required at least four times per year for staff days.

As Audio Transcription Coordinator you will be responsible for the production of all resources in the medium of Audio.
Transcription responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating the production of audio books, magazines, Torch literature and daily Bible reading notes in appropriate formats to a high-fidelity audio quality
- Ensuring that date specific material is made available in accordance with the transcription schedule; other material to be produced in a timely manner in line with Torch communications schedule and our Business As Usual policy
- The selection, training and ongoing supervision of audio volunteers – transcribers, editors and proof-readers
- The onboarding, training and supervision of authors who record their books for Torch
- Zoom Groups – managing participants & playback of audio, videos etc.
- Continual development of the Text to Speech (TTS) service
- Such other duties as may be reasonably required to ensure a good Audio Transcription Service
- Promote the good name of Torch at all times
- Assist in the promotion of Torch, such as through exhibitions and conferences, as agreed by the Chief Executive
- Participate in at least one annual in person work with Torch clients, such as Torch Together Holidays, Coffee Mornings or Fellowship Group meetings
- There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for the postholder to be a practising Christian, in accordance with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010, due to the nature of the role within the Christian ministry of Torch Trust
- A committed and practising Christian, able to actively support and contribute to the Christian ethos, vision and ministry of Torch Trust
- Agreement with the aims, values and Statement of Faith of Torch Trust
- Willingness to uphold and model the Christian ethos in all working relationships
- Experience of coordinating projects and delivering work to deadlines
- Experience of recruiting, training or supervising staff or volunteers or contributors
- Good IT skills, including Google, Microsoft Office and confidence using online platforms such as Zoom
- Awareness of, or willingness to learn about, assistive technologies and accessible audio formats (including TTS)
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality output
- Ability to produce consistent, high-standard audio resources
- Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to train, support and motivate volunteers and contributors
- Able to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders (staff, volunteers, authors and external partners)

- Experience of working with people with sight loss
- Experience of managing online groups or communities (e.g. Zoom-based groups)
- Knowledge of copyright, licensing and rights management in audio production
- Experience of working with assistive technology or accessible media formats
- Experience of contributing to service development or implementing new technologies (including TTS systems)
- Experience of coordinating complex workflows involving multiple contributors
- Proven experience in audio recording, editing and production, ideally including spoken word or audiobook content
- Good understanding of audio production processes, including editing, mastering and quality control
- Understanding of accessibility needs for people with sight loss
This is a permanent contract of 30 hours per week. The working pattern will be agreed with your Line Manager.
