Associate Priest for St Peter’s Church, St Albans
Role Statement
As Associate Priest, the person appointed would be a colleague to the vicar, and involved in the wider mission and worship life of the church. They will lead ministry in church life and outreach and may want to develop a particular focus.
Some key activities of this role (alongside the incumbent and the ministry team):
Examples of a particular focus may include, ministry to the city centre, ministry to local schools, ministry among children/families, working with the director of music on developing the musical life of St Peter’s.
-To share in strategic development of the life and aims of St Peter’s.
-To develop St Peter’s significant network of contacts, enabling and encouraging people to come to faith and grow in discipleship.
-To work with the incumbent, ministry team, and others, to strengthen outreach into our local community, particularly schools within the parish (3 primary schools, 1 secondary)
-To develop and extend St Peter’s enquirers’ courses and discipleship programmes.
-To support the volunteer leaders of the various activities at church.
-To participate in staff/management/ministry team meetings as necessary.
-To attend/take part Sunday and mid-week services, and weekday Morning Prayer when possible.
-To manage the necessary admin in relation to this role.
-To fully adhere to Church of England Safeguarding procedures as adopted in St Peter’s PCC Safeguarding policy.

Person Specification
The person filling this role will:
- Have an active Christian faith, confident to share encouragements and questions in our ongoing shared journey of learning.
- Have a willingness to discern God’s plans for St Peter’s.
- Be a confident and motivated leader and team player who can inspire others and is able to develop and support volunteers in a collaborative style.
- Be able to work with sensitivity, tact and maturity and to hold and keep confidential information. This person will also be able to give pastoral care and to relate warmly to people of all ages.
- Be in agreement with, and willing to support, the vision, values and objectives of St Peter’s Church outlined in our Mission Action Plan.
- Be a good communicator, both written and oral, be IT and social media literate and able to devise and deliver sessions with creativity and imagination.
- Be ordained as a priest in the Church of England.
