About the Assistant Registrar role:

Located in the Registrar team, this appointment will play a key role in delivering National Museums Scotland’s loans, acquisitions and disposals programmes in accordance with Museum policy and procedures.

As an Assistant Registrar at National Museums Scotland you will:

Assist the Registrars with delivery of the Museum’s Loans Programme of short and long term loans (incoming and outgoing) for exhibitions, display and other Museum purposes.
Apply professional knowledge and judgement to the viability of loans, acquisitions and disposal projects, liaising with and advising internal and external stakeholders.
Arrange insurance/indemnity cover for loans and maintain records of National Museums Scotland’s total indemnity.
Negotiate and implement transport and courier arrangements with shipping agents and borrowing/lending venues.
Assist with management of the delivery, installation and de-installation programme for incoming loans for exhibitions and displays in liaison with the Exhibitions and Design department.

Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Assistant Registrar:

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including being proficient in using databases and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ability to manage multiple projects, with effective time management skills.
Strong logistical and project management skills to assist with the management of transport and courier arrangements.
Experience of delivering collection registration services (such as loans, acquisitions or disposals) in a museum or similar environment.
Experience of using Museum Collections Information Systems, such as Axiell Collections, Mimsy, TMS.
Experience of arranging UK Government Indemnity or other collections insurance.
