About the HRBP / People Partner role:
This is a hands-on role, driving people excellence across our 500-employee, multi-site organisation. In this role, you’ll act as a strategic HR partner to leadership and operations, tackling everything from day-to-day employee relations, training and development, performance management and supporting organisational transformation projects. You’ll be our go-to expert for complex ER cases, ensuring fairness and compliance at every turn, strengthening knowledge through coaching and design.
If you are a knowledgeable professional who can balance legal requirements with business goals, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and championing our culture and helping our leaders deliver an exceptional employee experience through continuous improvement.
As an HRBP at National Museums Scotland you will:
- Understand the strategic and operational aims and objectives of aligned directorates to develop appropriate people programs, solutions and advice to to support their delivery
- Collaborate with People team colleagues, using their knowledge and expertise to support the development and implementation of key people activities to foster a positive workplace culture
- Provide professional support and guidance to managers on employee relations’ issues, taking the lead on complex casework
- Work in partnership with Trades Unions to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the recognised trade unions
- Enable and influence organisational design within directorates drawing on technical expertise and professional judgement to inform and shape
- Work with senior managers to consider operational workforce requirements, liaising with specialist colleagues to ensure that the business area receives the support they need to address challenges.
Skills and experience we’re looking for in our HRBP:
- Significant HR generalist knowledge that is equivalent to CIPD Level 5
- Current employment law and HR best practice
- Apply strategic thinking to HR processes and procedures to enable continuous improvement
- Conflict resolution and collaborative problem solving.

About the General Assistant role:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at the National Museum of Flight as General Assistant. You will assist in ensuring that our site and buildings are clean, well-maintained, safe and presented to the highest possible standards for our 75,000 visitors each year. You will also contribute to the setup and management of infrastructure for our Events and Learning and Engagement programmes. We are looking for someone with excellent organisational, practical and problem-solving skills, a willingness to work flexibly, a good knowledge of Health and Safety, and an overall proactive approach.
As a General Assistant at National Museums Scotland, you will:
- Assist the General Assistant Team Leader
- Operate plant and equipment at the Museum including floor scrubbers, forklift, genies, and pickup truck
- Report defects and provide a point of contact for and liaise with all contractors working at the Museum, including security guards
- Comply with and implement Health and Safety procedures and ensure that these are being maintained by contractor
- Participate in the operation of our intruder and fire alarm systems, keyholding and on call arrangements for the National Museum of Flight .
Skills and experience we’re looking for in our General Assistant:
- Experience of cleaning and maintenance of visitor attractions or similar environments
- Experience of Health and Safety procedures and policies
- Experience of operating equipment and tools
- Range of practical manual skills
- Driving Licence

Gardening Volunteer | Ideally 5 hours per week by arrangement
National Museums Scotland is currently looking for volunteer gardeners at our National Museum of Flight at East Fortune Airfield, East Lothian. We are looking for enthusiastic, creative, outdoor and nature-loving individuals to join our volunteer gardening team.
About the role
As part of the re-interpretation of our historic site at East Fortune, we are re-creating allotments originally tended by RAF personnel. The volunteer gardening team are developing fruit, vegetable, and flower gardens at the Museum, reflecting the site as it was during the Second World War. This is a living exhibit that enhances our learning & engagement programmes, provides local produce for the café and enhances the visitor experience.
