About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Assistant Management Accountantto join our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who enjoys working with complex financial information, building strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and supporting the effective financial management of a national charity.

This is a varied and rewarding role that combines technical accounting responsibilities, financial analysis, stakeholder engagement and process improvement, providing valuable experience for someone looking to further develop their career in finance within the charity sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage funding platforms and ensure the accurate and timely distribution of donated funds to the relevant projects and Conferences.
  • Lead on the transfer and reconciliation of intercompany balances, providing timely communication to stakeholders.
  • Maintain oversight of legacy income, working closely with legacy administrators to ensure accurate recording, reconciliation and reporting of legacy balances.
  • Act as the key finance contact for online donations, developing effective working relationships with Fundraising colleagues and supporting reconciliation with fundraising CRM systems.
  • Lead monthly reconciliations of allocated balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Support the reconciliation of inter-Society balances and transactions to enable accurate financial consolidation.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations and ensure income and expenditure are accurately allocated.
  • Process and reconcile project recharges and internal financial transfers.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts within agreed timescales.
  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process and provide information to support budget monitoring.
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports and performance information relating to the Society's special works and projects.
  • Produce statistical analysis and trend reporting to support informed decision-making.
  • Assist local treasurers, project leads and other stakeholders with financial projections and financial guidance.
  • Build strong working relationships with Community Support Projects, Fundraising teams, shops and projects on operational finance matters.
  • Provide support and cover across Finance Operations functions, including income processing, sales ledger, purchase ledger, banking and cash management.
  • Support the Society's procurement and tendering activities, helping to ensure value for money.
  • Assist with internal audits, monitoring visits and the development of robust financial controls and procedures.
  • Support retail Gift Aid processes and returns.
  • Assist with the preparation of VAT returns and related reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Society financial policies and procedures, escalating any concerns appropriately.
  • Respond to finance-related queries from colleagues and stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, Members, projects and administration centres across the Society.
  • Support the aims, values and mission of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

About You

Essential Criteria

  • A minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics.
  • AAT Level 2 qualification or above.
  • Experience working in a busy office environment with a strong focus on accuracy and data processing.
  • Experience carrying out complex account reconciliations and investigating financial discrepancies.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including functions such as SUMIFS, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and Pivot Tables.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information and identify errors, trends and anomalies.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high levels of accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet weekly, monthly and quarterly deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and solve problems effectively.
  • Adaptable and able to quickly learn new systems, processes and ways of working.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and identifying opportunities to enhance processes.

Desirable Criteria

  • AAT qualified.
  • Experience working within the charity, voluntary or not-for-profit sector.
  • Experience working within a branch-based or geographically dispersed organisation.
  • Experience of Gift Aid, VAT returns or charity accounting.
  • Experience working with fundraising systems, online donation platforms or legacy administration processes.
  • An active interest in the charitable and voluntary sector.
