Title of post: Art Teacher

Relationships: Reporting to the Head of Art, the Art Teacher will engage with pupils, other staff, parents, governors and external contacts.

Fundamental Task: To provide high-quality Art teaching, learning and assessment from Year 3 to Year 11.

Main Responsibilities: Will include, but will not be limited to:

Teaching and Learning

• Inspire children, teachers and parents and instill a love of the richness & diversity of Art.

Make themselves aware of the school’s SEND Policy and procedures for identification, monitoring and supporting pupils with SEND.

• Provide effective learning opportunities for all pupils by responding to their diverse needs.

Plan appropriately to meet the needs of all pupils through adaptive teaching.

Set suitable learning challenges.

Identify and support pupils in working towards attaining Art Scholarships at 11+ and 13+.

Be able to set clear targets, based on prior attainment, for pupils’ learning.

Provide a stimulating classroom environment, where resources can be accessed appropriately by all pupils.

Keep appropriate and efficient records, integrating formative and summative assessment into weekly and termly planning.

Report to parents on the development, progress and attainment of pupils.

Participate in meetings which relate to the school's management, curriculum, administration or organization.

Communicate and co-operate with specialists from outside agencies.

Contribute to any curriculum or scheme of work review for art and design.

Communicate and consult with parents and children on a regular basis about progress and development and attainment of pupils.

Monitor progress through observation or scrutiny of work and liaise with Senior Management on action needed.

Maintain an attractive and stimulating classroom environment and contribute to displays in the whole school.

Pastoral

Maintain good order and discipline amongst pupils, in accordance with the school's behaviour policy.

Taking part in the pastoral life of the school as a form tutor.

• Contributing to the PSHE programme.

Fulfil safeguarding responsibilities as outlined in the School’s Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy.

Extra Curricular

Contributing to the extra-curricular life of the school through the Enrichment Programme or other appropriate commitment.

Run/supervise at least one club or prep per week and such other activities as the Head shall consider necessary from time to time and as are within the Teacher’s reasonable capabilities.

General Duties

Duties will be reflective of the expectations of a Holme Grange teacher:

• Attend one school staff meeting each week as part of expected school commitments.

Provide supervision at agreed lunch, play, break times and gate duty as party of a rota to ensure adequate supervision and care of pupils at all times.

• Work as an individual and as a member of a team with high professional standards.

Implement all agreed school policies and guidelines.

Provide a stimulating learning environment, where resources and learning can be accessed appropriately.

Keep up to date through reading and attending INSET courses and by developing links with sources of expertise outside the school.

Participate in the performance management system for the appraisal of their own performance.

Take steps to ensure current practice is continually improving.

Keep abreast of changes in education.

Support initiatives decided by the Headteacher and staff.

Implement all agreed school policies and guidelines.
