At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as an Analyst within our data team. In this role, you will design, develop and maintain high-quality Power BI reporting and data models that enable teams across the organisation to make informed, data-driven decisions.

You’ll work closely with stakeholders across digital, marketing, supporter and operational teams to understand their reporting needs and translate these into robust Power BI solutions. Alongside leading your own projects, you will contribute to the delivery of impactful reporting and business intelligence that supports the optimisation and innovation of our fundraising activity and helps maximise the contribution we make towards beating cancer.

This role combines strong Power BI development expertise with stakeholder engagement and project ownership, giving you the opportunity to shape how data is used across the organisation.

What will I be doing?

  • Working with stakeholders to understand business objectives, gather reporting and business intelligence requirements, and document solutions.

  • Designing, developing and maintaining Power BI datasets and reports that support decision-making across the organisation.

  • Building and optimising robust data models (including star schemas) to support scalable and high-performing reporting solutions.

  • Writing and optimising SQL queries in Snowflake to extract, transform and prepare data for reporting and analysis.

  • Developing and maintaining DAX measures and calculations to deliver reliable and insightful reporting outputs.

  • Leading your own BI and reporting development projects, delivering high-quality KPI reporting and analysis that ensures teams have access to the most relevant and up-to-date information.

  • Communicating reporting and insights clearly to stakeholders in a way that drives understanding, impact and informed decision-making.

  • Investigating and resolving data inconsistencies, ensuring reporting outputs remain accurate, consistent and trusted across the organisation.

  • Ensuring all work follows established processes, governance standards and documentation requirements.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve reporting, data quality and governance, and collaborating with team members to implement improvements.

  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships across the organisation, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues to increase the effective use of data and reporting tools.

What are we looking for?

  • Significant experience of using Power BI, familiar with creating advanced data models (including star schema), data flows and DAX language, using outputs to make actionable reports and insights.

  • Relevant experience of manipulating a broad range of data sets and writing complex queries for reporting needs or driving out insight using SQL. Experience Snowflake or similar platforms advantageous but not essential

  • Significant experience of reporting and data analysis techniques and statistics gained in an organisation or agency, ideally with complex marketing and comms landscape.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel (experience in creating macros advantageous but not essential).

  • Experience of leading and delivering projects with proven impact and demonstrating excellent project management and planning skills with ability to prioritise workload

  • Proven ability to act as a trusted partner to stakeholders, leading requirements-gathering sessions, challenging assumptions, balancing business needs and translating requirements into reporting/ business intelligence solutions.

  • Strategic skills (including analysis, structured thinking and logical reasoning) and strong accuracy and numeracy, with good attention to detail

  • Evidence of proactive behaviours, and ability to work independently, challenges own performance, invests in own development and finds innovative solutions to problems

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to convey expertise in a way that engages and builds their knowledge

  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with others and work as part of a team.

Our organisation values are designed to guide all that we do.

Bold: Act with ambition, courage and determination

Credible: Act with rigour and professionalism

Human: Act to have a positive impact on people

Together: Act inclusively and collaboratively
