Responsibilities of our Advocacy Research Analyst:

- Lead advocacy research and analysis, overseeing the design, commissioning and delivery of robust, ethical, and policy‑aligned research that supports campaigns and influencing priorities

- Generate high-quality insights, apply robust analytical methods and translate complex findings into clear, influential outputs, helping to shape policy and campaigns

- Lead the production and promotion of the annual Cats and Their Stats (CATS) Report

- Provide strategic and day‑to‑day oversight of advocacy research activity, ensuring alignment with charity objectives

- Act as a key advocacy spokesperson, responding to research‑related enquiries and representing Cats Protection at external events

- Present complex research findings to large and diverse audiences

About the Advocacy team:

The Advocacy & Government Relations team leads the charity in influencing decision-makers and those whose policies, practices and decisions affect cat welfare across the UK. The small, highly motivated team works to influence legislators (national and devolved governments), professional organisations and corporates. The team has successfully influenced the law on microchipping, pet theft and commercial kitten sales in England and worked with the Scottish Government to regulate cat breeding and rehoming activities. The team also runs digital campaigns as part of its strategy.

What we’re looking for in our Advocacy Research Analyst:

- Strong animal welfare policy and research expertise, ability to produce high quality reports

- Experience leading research and data analysis that has shaped advocacy campaigns

- Confident analysing and converting data into clear messages for a non-technical audiences

- Proven ability to turn data into clear, actionable insights that inform policy decisions

- Proficiency in analytical tools or software such as Power BI

- Ability to work independently on initiative with minimal supervision

- Strong data interpretation and critical thinking skills, ability to clearly communicate findings

- Confident public speaker, comfortable presenting to large audiences

- Knowledge of research ethics, data governance, and best practice

- Knowledge of public policy processes across the UK nations
