Title of post: Accelerated Learning Tutor

Relationships: Visiting peripatetic teachers will report to the Prep and Secondary SENDCos.

Fundamental Task: The post holder is responsible for providing specialist 1:1 support for pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), particularly Dyslexia and/or Dyscalculia.

Responsibilities: To provide high-quality, specialist 1:1 tuition that enables pupils with learning difficulties to overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence and independence, and make accelerated academic progress, in line with Holme Grange School’s values and commitment to pupil wellbeing.

Main Responsibilities: Will include, but will not be limited to:

Plan, prepare and deliver individualised programmes of support for pupils, with availability to liaise with class teachers.

Deliver evidence-based, multi-sensory teaching approaches appropriate for the needs of their pupils.

Select, adapt and utilise a wide range of resources, including assistive technology, to support learning.

• Provide oral and written feedback/updates as requested by parents and SENDCos.

• Provide bi-annual written comments for pupil reports.

Promote pupils’ academic progress, personal development and wellbeing, ensuring high standards of behaviour, safety and safeguarding.

• Uphold and actively promote the school’s vision for wellbeing, inclusion and excellence.

Complete all administrative and organisational tasks related to the role in a timely and professional manner.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Relevant specialist qualification in Specific Learning Difficulties and/or Dyslexia (for SpLD specialist roles).

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised qualification in specialist maths support (for Dyscalculia or maths-focused roles).

Proven experience delivering 1:1 support to KS1/ KS2 or KS3/KS4 pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties.

• (Strong understanding of evidence-based interventions for literacy and/or numeracy difficulties)

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with both pupils and adults.

High levels of organisation, with the ability to prioritise tasks and follow them through to completion.

Ability to work independently as a self-employed peripatetic tutor, liaising directly with parents.
