About the Role
Age UK Devon’s Enabling and Home Support Service aims to enable older people to make the most of later life and stay independent in their own homes.
Our dedicated Home Support Assistants work in their local communities to help older people by providing companionship and pampering, enabling support attending appointments or activities, shopping (escorted and unescorted), organising household paperwork, providing time off for carers, meal planning and preparation, light cleaning and household, and help with basic pet care.
You will be joining a friendly team with supportive management who provide in house training and development to support you in your role. There is no tricky paperwork or timesheets to complete as our service operates digitally, so all scheduled visits and client information is accessed via an App on an Age UK Devon smartphone which is issued to each Home Support Assistant.
You will be entitled to 20 days of holiday per annum exclusive of bank holidays (calculated on a pro-rata basis for part time employees).

Orchard is a spacious two-storey home within the Ravenswood Estate, supporting nine adults aged 20s to 70s with moderate to severe neurodevelopmental disabilities, including learning disabilities, autism, and additional needs such as epilepsy and mental health conditions. The home includes six bedrooms and two self-contained flats, creating a mixed and personalised environment.
Shifts follow a 24-hour rota, typically running 07:00 to 21:00, with adjustments made around the routines and preferences of the people supported. You’ll be joining a stable and values-led team committed to Kindness, Respect, Belonging, and Empowerment.
Your Day-to-Day
Your role will be varied and active. You’ll:
• Support people with personal care, medication, mobility, and communication
• Help people participate in activities, hobbies and trips out
• Assist with household tasks and daily routines
• Promote independence, dignity and choice
• Support people based on their individual needs and support plans
• Drive the home vehicle for appointments or leisure (if you’re a driver)
Experience, Qualifications & Training
Essential:
• Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities or autism would be beneficial
• Awareness of safeguarding and person-centred care
• Able to commit to full-time hours, including weekends
Desirable:
• Experience with epilepsy and/or mental health support
• Knowledge of active support and Dignity in Care
• Full, clean UK driving licence

Description
We are looking for people to join our supported living service in Hackney, providing support for autistic young adults and learning disabilities, to transition them into adulthood and independence while living in their own flat.
This is a hands-on role where you will spend your time supporting people with everyday life activities, from developing essential life skills and accessing the community, to personal care and wellbeing.
No previous professional care experience is required. If you have personal experience of care or simply a strong desire to support others, we’ll provide you with training, including Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). If you hold a current driving licence, this would be an advantage.
This role includes working evenings, weekends and bank holidays, on a rota basis.
Supporting people we work with (People We Support)
· Deliver high-quality care and support to individuals in line with their support plans and risk assessments
· Enable people to access the community, develop independence, and pursue interests and goals
· Support with daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, budgeting and household tasks
· Act as a keyworker, maintaining regular contact and building meaningful relationships
· Encourage participation in planning services, recruitment and feedback opportunities

Financial and contractual responsibility
· Follow all financial procedures and policies, including appropriate use of petty cash
· Ensure value for money in all purchases and day-to-day activities
