Update oneself regarding new programs/interventions of the like-minded organizations in states and changing trends and any new national/state level policies etc, as announced by the government.

As a Pet Welfare Assistant for our onsite services, you'll play an important role in our mission, ensuring that every pet receives the love, attention, and support they deserve during their stay at our Burford rehoming centre.

As a skilled animal handler and assessor, you will be responsible for the ‘preparation stage’ with the pets in our care which involves caring, carrying out assessments and rehabilitation plans, preparing them for the ‘adoption stage’ or the best possible outcome for their circumstances with minimal delay.
As a Pet Welfare Assistant, you will ensure that the welfare standards are met and that rehabilitation plans are followed and supported for pets in our care. Working independently and with the team you will carry out meetings with owners giving up their pet, ensuring all information is recorded, paperwork completed and that the pet is immediately assessed for behavioural or veterinary problems. Working closely with the Adoptions Coordinator you will provide additional in person or virtual advice and practical demonstrations to ensure adoptees are fully aware of the work that has been done with the pet and how to continue with any other additional behaviour training or medical provision. This role is mostly based in our cattery department.
This is a part time role on a 2 week rota consisting of the below days;
Week 1: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Week 2: Monday, Thursday, Friday
At our Burford rehoming centre, we provide onsite accommodation for pets in our care 24/7. Overnight shifts are usually undertaken by team members who live on site. Occasionally, you will be expected to carry out night checks or stay in onsite accommodation overnight when the resident team members are either not working or away for a period of time.

About you
As a skilled animal handler and assessor, you will be intuitive with pets, empathetic and welfare focused having worked in a similar animal related environment. You will also be used to assessing the needs of a pet, alert to the behavioural signs and have a basic knowledge of the use of medication e.g., hibiscrub, flea and tick treatments, diabetes management. In addition, you will have a fundamental understanding that the best welfare intervention for a pet is to find a new home and leave on site pet accommodation as quickly as possible.
You will be self-motivated, forward thinking with a collaborative and creative approach to your work, which will ensure to bring your best pragmatic ideas for the care of the pets to ensure the best outcome is achieved. In addition, you will be able to quickly assimilate information, be competent at accurately recording information while also conducting conversations with clients and stakeholders. You will be an excellent communicator, approachable with strong interpersonal skills.
You will know what it is like to work in an emotionally charged environment and have excellent ‘bounce back ability’ and resilience. In addition, you will be emotionally intelligent, showing empathy and knowing how to support clients and colleagues.
Knowledge, skills, and experience
- Experience of having previously worked or volunteered with domestic animals or in an animal welfare environment.

We are recruiting for a Payroll and Systems Officer to take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of all Dogs Trust payrolls, including ensuring all associated payments and paperwork are administered appropriately. This will include checking complex work, answering queries and monitoring and administering all staff benefits on behalf of Dogs Trust.
The Systems and Payroll Officer also has a key role in the administration and development of the HR/Payroll System, Iris Cascade.
What does this role do?
As Payroll and Systems Officer, you’ll:
- Be responsible for the accurate delivery of the monthly payrolls for all Dogs Trust employees for the UK, and the outsourced international payrolls
- Undertake day-to-day administration as required, and provide support and training for the Payroll Administrators who deliver the payrolls, where necessary
- Be responsible for complicated manual calculations in line with Dogs Trust policies, and for ensuring statutory regulations are included correctly
- Be the main contact for these calculations and processes for managers and ensure budget holders and managers know the payroll deadlines and submit complete instructions, liaising with managers and the HR team when there are gaps in the information
- Undertake both sample and regular checks of all payroll changes such as leave payments, deductions and correct adjustments as necessary. Also undertake auto-enrolment and salary sacrifice processes and ensure the regulations are being processed correctly
- Be a system administrator for the HR / Payroll system. This will include configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of the HR, Payroll and Training elements of the system
- Maintain, liaise and process paperwork for pension contributions and all other staff benefits, ensuring a good working relationship with the external providers
- Run, audit and reconcile the necessary end of month reports and provide with supporting documentation to obtain approval for payment of the payroll. Responsible for subsequent end of payroll letters, documents and both scheduled and ad hoc reports as part of Period and Year End processes
- Answer queries relating to all areas of payroll for managers and colleagues in person and in writing
Could this be you?
To be successful in this busy role you’ll have experience in a similar position, with demonstrable working knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements, including pension regulations. You’ll be highly numerate and able to understand and explain detailed payroll and tax information. You’ll have experience of preparing and reconciling payroll data, and a good working knowledge of staff benefits, including those managed through salary sacrifice.
You’ll be highly IT literate, with experience of using an integrated payroll and HR database (ideally Iris Cascade), and the ability to assist in the development of the system at a technical level. You’ll also have excellent communication skills, with advanced knowledge of report writing and the ability to produce clear and detailed reports from both HR and Payroll systems.

The Payroll Team is part of the People function and is responsible for the upkeep and management of the Dogs Trust payrolls to ensure all salaries are paid accurately and on time.
It is an important that the postholder is able to pay all payrolls in the absence of the payroll manager, alongside the HR Operations Manager and the People Director.

JOB TITLE JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF STUDIES (ADOS) & LONDON COORDINATOR Responsible to: Director of Studies Main Purpose: The ADOS is an important role on the Summer School as it supports the Director of Studies throughout the course, enabling them to deliver an effective curriculum by leading and inspiring the teaching team. The ADOS will also lead the London trips, taking the operational lead and responsibility for the smooth running of these trips. Accommodation will be provided by the school throughout – this may be school boarding or external rented accommodation, depending on the needs of the course. The London trips are 4-day experiences with all activities, accommodation, transport and meals pre-arranged by an experienced tour operator. Adequate time off will be given prior to/following the London trip. During these trips, the ADOS will stay in either twin (same gender) or single occupancy hotel accommodation. A mobile app is used to coordinate the trip and assistance is available, both from the wider summer school team and the tour operator. Course Dates: The ADOS role will run for 4 weeks (see breakdown below) and the successful candidate will be available for the entirety and be able to commit some time before the course to work with the DOS in allocating classes and becoming familiar with the curriculum (compensation to be discussed). If candidates have holidays, weddings, graduations etc booked, they must mention this at the interview stage. Time off for such events cannot be guaranteed otherwise. Key dates for ADOS role: - Prior to 26th June 2026: ADOS will liaise with the Course Director (Teams meetings), and be provided - - - - - - - - with all the information regarding the London trip 26th June: induction day in London (ADOS to brief the London team) 27th – 30th June: London trip 1 30th June: transfer to Sedbergh with students 1st July: day off 2nd – 4th July: ADOS attends main site induction and begins meeting with DOS and teaching team 4th – 18th July: ADOS assists the DOS with the administration of the academic programme. They may have some teaching duties. 18th – 21st July: London trip 2 – ADOS will travel to London with the students and other staff member(s) and return to Sedbergh afterwards, to continue with supporting the DOS. 25th – 28th July: London trip 3 – ADOS will travel to London with the students and other staff member(s) and their contract will end after this trip. Summer School roles are residential and involve variable hours, including evenings and weekends. Weekly pay reflects both active working hours and periods of standby/on-call duty. Staff receive one full day off per week and reasonable daily rest periods. The school cannot cover the cost of travelling to and from the school/London, unless on a journey accompanying students. Roles and Responsibilities (ADOS): • Setting and maintaining exemplary standards of organisation, teaching, planning, time-management and professionalism. • The preparation of your own dynamic and communicative lessons and activities across a range of levels to multinational pupil groups of various ages. • Providing support, guidance and feedback for academic staff in the preparation and delivery of lessons. • Assisting the DOS in conducting formal observations of teaching staff and offering fair and useful feedback. • Assisting the DOS in allocating pupils to the most appropriate class and maintaining accurate class lists. • Ensuring that class attendance registers, records of work and lesson plans are undertaken and in line with GDPR protocols. • Assisting the DOS in ensuring end of course reports are written in a meaningful and timely manner for every pupil. • • Supporting the DOS in the running of the Community Engagement programme, including ensuring all risk assessments are in place and adhered to. Supporting the DOS and Operations Director in the organisation of the end of week presentation of awards and certificates.
