You have a friendly nature and good communication skills, which will come in handy when you’re interacting with colleagues and customers.

We are on the lookout for passionate volunteers to join us at one of our events. As a volunteer on the day you’ll be part of an amazing atmosphere and will support Mencap to make change through raising funds or engaging with your local community.
The 2026 Hackney Half is on May 17th, and we need volunteers to join us from 10am - 2pm to help cheer on our 49 incredible runners! You will see them run past our cheer point near the half way mark, giving you the chance to give them a massive cheer to boost and support them on their way. You will be given a pink t-shirt and cheering materials on the day to make a huge wave of noise to support #TeamMencap.
What will I be doing? You will be volunteering at Mencap's cheer point near Dalston Junction on May 17th. This might include:
- Cheering our runners
- Waving flags
- Making lots of noise with clappers and whistles
- Giving out high fives
- Thanking people for running and raising money for Mencap
Our events are vital to Mencap, bringing people together to share experiences, launch programmes and celebrate successes! They also often help to raise funds for our services, such as the Learning Disability Helpline, advocacy services, and national campaigns such as "Homes Not Hospitals".
We hold lots of events throughout the year, including bike rides and runs from 10km all the way up to Marathons. We also do art showings, bucket collections, garden parties, Christmas wrapping sessions, and lots more!
We couldn't run these events without the support of volunteers, so by giving a few hours of your time you can help us to host events, raise vital funds to support Mencap's work and support people with a learning disability to live happy and healthy lives.
You'll be part of a diverse and inclusive team alongside volunteers with and without a learning disability. You will represent Mencap and help to promote our work and raise awareness for people with a learning disability at iconic events across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

About the role
In 2027, Scotland will host the prestigious Tour de France Grand Départ, a momentous event with the potential to create lasting social change. A dedicated project team is being established to drive the development and delivery of a transformative social impact strategy that leverages cycling to improve lives across Scotland.
We are seeking a dynamic, talented, and passionate Communications Coordinator to support the digital communications and storytelling that bring the Tour de France Grand Départ social impact strategy to life; inspiring participation, supporting programme delivery, strengthening partnerships, and evidencing impact before, during and after the 2027 Grand Départ.
The post holder will lead on the day-to-day management of all communications activity linked to the Tour de France social impact programme, working closely with the rest of the Scottish Cycling Marketing & Communications team, and the wider social impact team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a globally recognised event, raising the profile of cycle sport in Scotland, and deliver lasting change to improve lives across Scotland.
THE MOWLEM Theatre Cinema & Function Rooms Volunteer Ushers Job Description Volunteer ushers help in the smooth running of The Mowlem during live events and are a vital support to the small team of staff. Answering to the Volunteer Leads, volunteer ushers will be given an agreed number of shifts on rotas which may include morning, afternoon and evening sessions depending on the type of live show booked; theatre, kids entertainment, live music etc. In return, we hope that your time at The Mowlem will prove a rewarding and fun experience for volunteers aged 16 and upwards. Responsibilities: ● Meeting and greeting visitors to The Mowlem ● Checking tickets, showing visitors to their seats and helping them leave after the show ● Assisting with customer enquiries ● Keeping the venue clean ● Assisting in case of an emergency evacuation (full training given) ● Other duties as requested by the Arts Administrator or Operations Manager during the shift Person Specification: ● You’ll be polite and friendly in your approach to the public ● You have an interest in theatre, cinema, the arts or other community events ● You are well presented, friendly, punctual and importantly, reliable ● You can remain calm under pressure (theatres can get very busy!) We are looking for a flexible retail assistants for our Charity shops and occasional cover for our online shop.
This role requires flexibility to work in any of our Charity Shops across Bristol
You will play a key part in supporting the Shop Managers in the daily running of the shops. For our online shop this could include listing, taking photographs, researching items for sale, creating engaging social media posts.
You will assist the shop managers with weekly and monthly tasks including reporting, financial and health & safely processes.

We’re looking for:

We are currently recruiting for volunteers to support with our craft group on Friday afternoons.
The Living Life Creatively Group gives people the opportunity to explore new skills through a creative project. In this context ‘art’ is used as an expressive medium to address emotional issues which may be confusing or distressing. It may give an opportunity to create something as a remembrance of a life lived in whatever form is meaningful to the individual: e.g. (but not limited to) a memory box or scrapbook of things significant to that person’s life, a life history, a cookery book, a sound recording.
As part of the therapy team, providing rehabilitation interventions within a group setting, facilitating a flexible group environment which allows a creative space.
Sessions are scheduled for two hours once a week.
