Role summary: The Regional Lead plays a pivotal role in supporting the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) by leading a regional team to promote education & networking. The Regional Lead ensures the delivery of high-quality regional activities, including study days, while fostering collaborative and inclusive team environments. The Regional Lead facilitates education, enhances networking opportunities, and ensures a continuing regional AfPP presence.
Term of Appointment: Initial term of up to three years, with potential to continue to support the team and new Regional Lead in role.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Maintain Region email account and correspond with AfPP HQ and members appropriately.
- Lead the regional team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Create a supportive, respectful, and inclusive team environment.
- Address concerns within the team or escalate them to the AfPP Education Lead when necessary.
- Mentor and support team members for future leadership roles.
- Maintain an active succession plan to ensure continuance of regional activity.
Educational activities
- Plan, organise, and host at least one regional study day and one webinar annually.
- Work with AfPP HQ (Education, Events, and Patient Safety Leads) on event planning and delivery.
- Source speakers and suggest sponsors for regional events.
- Adhere to marketing and planning timelines.
Networking and Engagement
- Build and maintain active local networks through meetings, events, and regular communication.
- Engage with regional theatre departments to promote activities and recruit new members.
- Disseminate and promote relevant information about AfPP and regional activities.
- Maintain regular communication with the Education Lead ensuring regional activity is aligned with AfPP’s strategic direction.
Commitment
- A time commitment of around 6- 8 hours per month, varying throughout the periods of event activity.
- Attendance at AfPP Annual National Conference in person and Annual General Meeting online.
- Advocate for AfPP’s mission, values, and professional standards.
- Act as the primary representative of AfPP for the region.
- Advocate for best practices in perioperative care, championing patient safety and practitioner wellbeing.

We are looking for a Surgical Care Practitioner with strong Robotics experience to join our Theatre team at The Christie Private Care in Manchester, currently rated “Outstanding” by the CQC.

We work with World Class Surgeons and the latest innovative technology and equipment including Da Vinci Surgical system and have performed over 500 robotic procedures with the Davinci Xi robot currently.
What you will do:
- Provide skilled assistance as a Robotic SCP
- Lead the scrub team as required, working closely with the Scrub Lead
- Perform the Surgical First Assistant role as necessary to meet the needs of the department
- Participate in patient assessment and perioperative care as deemed necessary by the Consultant surgeon
- Take a lead role in the teaching and development of all members of the operating room team, ensuring up-to-date and evidence-based practice within the team
- Ensure quality improvement, participating in audits as necessary
- Participate in the development of the robotic Service at The Christie Private Care

Overview

The scrub skills we specifically require are Major Orthopaedics, ENT, Urology, Gynae, General, Trauma, Cosmetics/Plastics.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and management of the operating theatre.
- Provide direct patient care in scrub and recovery settings.
- Support surgical teams with instruments and supplies during procedures.
- Monitor patients’ conditions pre, during, and post-operation.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and infection control protocols.

Candidate Requirements
- Registered Nurse with a background in Theatre. 18 months’ post-graduate experience.
- Experience in scrub or recovery roles is essential.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Relevant qualifications and current NMC registration for RNs or HCPC for ODPs.

Role Summary: The Specialist Interest Group (SIG) lead plays a pivotal role in supporting the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) by leading and coordinating the activities of the SIG and online Forum.
Fostering professional engagement, facilitating networking opportunities, supporting members and promoting high standards of perioperative practice.
The role will include leading the online forum, sharing specialised knowledge and exchanging ideas as topic moderators (posting new topics weekly), and managing topic threads by encouraging member activity.
Term of Appointment: Initial term of up to three years, ensuring continuity and succession planning for the SIG.

The Portland Hospital is the only private hospital in the UK dedicated to the healthcare of women and children. The theatre team comprises of Consultants and Practitioners who have vast experience and knowledge across a range of specialties. There are many complex procedures carried out daily, across a range of acute specialities, including Gynae & Obstetrics, as well as general and paediatric surgery.
As a Scrub Theatre Practitioner, you will be working as part of a team to ensure a high standard of nursing care and safety for patients within the theatre unit. In addition to this, you will also actively contribute to the maintenance of an environment that is conducive to the delivery and promotion of a high standard of patient care.

This is a unique opportunity to work in an advanced surgical environment where experience in robotic-assisted surgery is essential, with proven expertise in the da Vinci surgical system. You will play a key role in delivering outstanding patient care across a wide range of urological procedures.
What you will do
- Act as the scrub practitioner for a variety of urological procedures, ensuring meticulous attention to aseptic techniques.
- Work confidently in robotic-assisted urological surgery, particularly with the da Vinci surgical system.
- Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical environment, ensuring all instruments and equipment are optimally prepared.
- Anticipate and support the surgical team’s needs throughout complex procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of urological surgical techniques, robotics, and innovations.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and the wider team to deliver safe, high-quality care.

Role: Specialist Interest Group (SIG) Lead
Reports To: Clinical Patient Safety Quality Lead
Location: Remote working
Key Relationships: AfPP HQ (Education Lead, Clinical Patient Safety Lead, Production Editor for Innovation, People and Practice (IPP) magazine, Events Team, Marketing Team), Local Regional Team.
Role Summary: The Specialist Interest Group (SIG) lead plays a pivotal role in supporting the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) by leading and coordinating the activities of the SIG and online Forum.
Fostering professional engagement, facilitating networking opportunities, supporting members and promoting high standards of perioperative practice.
The role will include leading the online forum, sharing specialised knowledge and exchanging ideas as topic moderators (posting new topics weekly), and managing topic threads by encouraging member activity.
Term of Appointment: Initial term of up to three years, ensuring continuity and succession planning for the SIG.
