The Queen’s College is an equal opportunities employer.
The College aims to appoint one Academic Distinguished Visitor each year. Such visitors are leading figures from academia. During their residency, it is expected that they contribute actively to the intellectual life of the College at all levels: undergraduate, postgraduate, fellowship, and Old Members. Visitors typically give a short lecture or presentation to the College community, and they write a brief piece about their time in the College for The College Record – the College’s annual alumni magazine. Such a period of residency marks an important part of a lifelong connection to the College.
In addition to accommodation, the College offers senior membership, a library card, generous dining privileges (free of charge) at High Table and the opportunity to engage fully with our community of Fellows and undergraduate and postgraduate students across the full range of academic disciplines.
Academic Distinguished Visitors will typically be colleagues from other universities (normally at the rank of Professor) who intend to conduct research in Oxford and be affiliated with the College while on funded sabbatical leave from their host institution. While they do not receive an honorarium, the College is sometimes able to assist with travel expenses to and from Oxford. For the 2026-27 academic year (application deadline 31st December), the College invites applications from colleagues working in fields represented in the Medical Sciences Division. The College welcomes applications for proposed projects that are interdisciplinary in nature, as long as they would have a natural home in the Division for which applications are actively sought.
Applications may be submitted at any time of year by emailing a C.V. and brief cover letter to academic.recruitment@queens.ox.ac.uk; all applications received before 31st December will be considered at the first meeting of Academic Committee in Hilary Term (i.e., in January 2026, for residency during the 2026-27 academic year).

Applications are invited for the position of Chef de Partie at The Queen’s College.
The Chef de Partie plays an essential role in the catering team and the kitchen provides excellent everyday meals for students, staff and Fellows, as well as executing formal, fine-dining events which include prominent guests. The calendar has a number of gaudies, which are celebratory feasts, often incorporating specific culinary traditions, frequently attended by old members (former students) of the College. The College kitchen supplies hot and cold food for around 275 diners through the Servery at lunch and approximately 150 students each evening in term time. Summer schools, conference catering, and private dinners are also provided throughout the year, in a number of locations throughout the College, and the standards of production and presentation are high.
The Chef de Partie will have experience as a Chef de Partie or have considerable experience as a Commis Chef, and ideally will have professional qualifications too. They will bring a range of skills, but also be prepared to learn a great deal in our kitchen from the Head Chef and Sous Chefs, executing innovative and creative daily meals for students, staff and Fellows, and exceptional food for formal, fine-dining events.
The Queen’s College, University of Oxford, is offering a Junior Research Fellowship in Climate Change Research for candidates who hold, or are close to completing, a doctorate in any field whose research seeks to understand and/or respond to the challenges of the climate change crisis. The Fellowship offers researchers the opportunity to develop their research within one of the world’s leading universities and so strengthen their future position in the academic job market.
As well as engaging in their own research, the Junior Research Fellow will be expected to attend the College’s Climate Change Committee and to take an active role in organising and facilitating academic activities that engage members of the College—students, Fellows, and staff—in understanding and addressing the climate change crisis. Such activities could include convening an interdisciplinary conference or workshop or partnering with existing activities or groups within the College. An allowance of £5,000 per annum will be available to the Junior Research Fellow for these purposes.
Junior Research Fellowships are tenable for a fixed term of three years and it is expected that the successful candidate will take up the post no later than 1st October 2026. Consideration will be given to any field of specialisation; candidates will need to demonstrate how their research focuses on understanding and/or addressing the challenges of the climate change crisis. Research Fellowships will not normally be awarded to people who have held comparable post-doctoral positions. Candidates must have accumulated, by 1st October 2026, no more than two years’ full-time postdoctoral research experience (from the date of doctoral award); however, these two years need not be continuous.
We are committed to fostering equality, diversity and inclusiveness. We particularly encourage applications from women, disabled people and people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, as these groups are currently under-represented in the College’s academic staff.
Salary and Allowances
The annual salary for this post is £37,694 plus a discretionary pensionable £3,335 per annum Queen’s Weighting payment which will be paid in monthly instalments. The Junior Research Fellow will be automatically enrolled in the USS pension scheme unless they opt out.
A personal academic allowance of £4,059 per annum is provided by the College for academic activities such as conference attendance, research assistance, and the purchase of books and IT equipment. A further allowance of £5,000 per annum will be available to support the organisation and delivery of academic events that engage College members in responding to the climate change crisis.
