We believe veterinary care should reach those who need it most - regardless of circumstance. As a Veterinary Surgeon with us, you won’t just be practicing medicine; you’ll be making a meaningful impact on vulnerable animals and the communities that depend on them.
More about the role
Veterinary Surgeons at Blue Cross are exposed to a wide variety of medical, surgical and emergency cases, enabling rapid development of skills and confidence in general practice.
Blue Cross has developed an award-winning set of clinical guidelines to assist our vets in pragmatic, evidence-based decision making, where patient welfare is a priority. High standards are important to us, but so is the ability to discuss openly where lessons have been learnt, within a safe, non-judgmental environment.
We recognise that we work within a profession where compassion fatigue is a risk to us all. We have wellbeing champions and Mental Health First Aiders at all hospitals, coordinating a range of initiatives and promoting a culture of openness and support within the team. As winners of the British Veterinary Association’ (BVA) Wellbeing Awards, we are passionate about providing you with a safe and supportive workplace.
About the hospital
The range of work our teams carry out goes above and beyond what is offered in first opinion private practice, and we offer a high-quality working environment with facilities including digital X-Ray, ultrasound and endoscopy in our purpose-built hospital. Our vets have a wealth of experience and are more than happy to share their knowledge and help you develop your clinical skills.
The shift pattern is mostly Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, allowing for an excellent work-life pattern. You will be a part of the evening and weekend rota, resulting in about 1 evening shift a week (emergency calls only) and 1 weekend shift, Saturday and Sunday (compensated by time in lieu), every 6 weeks.
About you
We are looking for a RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon with a caring attitude to animals and owners and will be able to communicate well with colleagues and clients. Our hospitals see a high caseload of emergency and critical care cases, both surgical and medical, so it is desirable that you will have some small animal experience.
With a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to make a difference, you'll embody our Blue Cross values and contribute to our culture of compassion, courage, and inclusivity.

Location:Hammersmith animal hospital, W6 0RQ
Closing date:Sunday 22nd February 2026
Interview dates:W/C 2nd March 2026
We’re looking for a friendly, caring Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our close knit team at our Hammersmith Animal Hospital. You’ll be working with a group of dedicated and talented veterinary professionals who genuinely support one another, delivering excellent care to a wide variety of small animals. From routine nursing to emergency work, no two days are the same and there are plenty of opportunities to build confidence, develop new skills and grow in your role.
More about the role
Blue Cross animal hospitals and pet care clinics provide veterinary treatment to sick and injured pets when their owners can’t afford private veterinary fees. Our vet care is available to pets whose owners receive certain means-tested benefits and live within the catchment area of one of our animal hospitals or pet care clinics.
Our Hammersmith hospital is a compact, quirky site with lots of character which first opened in 1922; we’re very proud of its history. Despite its size, it’s well equipped with digital and dental x-ray, ultrasound and a mini-lab for in-house testing and microscopy, which we actively encourage nurses to get involved to develop these skills. We have separate dog and cat wards, a dedicated room for euthanasia to ensure privacy and dignity and a designated reception team so clinical staff can stay focused on patient care.
You’ll be joining a small, welcoming team where communication really matters. We start each day with short, informal mini-meetings to share updates and we hold monthly whole-team meetings where everyone’s voice is encouraged. We use award-winning clinical guidelines to support practical, evidence-based decision-making, always putting patient welfare first and we value open conversations and shared learning in a safe, non-judgemental environment.
We also understand the emotional demands of veterinary work and the importance of looking after each other. Wellbeing champions and Mental Health First Aiders are based at all our hospitals, helping to create a culture where people feel supported, listened to and able to be themselves.
Working hours
This is a full-time, permanent role offering a good work–life balance, with weekday hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm. You’ll work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break. We’re also happy to consider part-time applicants looking to work four days per week, with days discussed at interview.
Weekend shifts are worked on a rota basis at our Victoria site, averaging around 7–8 weekends per year.
About you
As a Veterinary Nurse, you will be confident and capable in delivering excellent nursing care for a range of small animals, providing both emergency and routine healthcare. Our Veterinary Nurses work alongside Veterinary Surgeons to promote animal health and welfare through responsible ownership and play a key role in the education of pet owners.
The ability to work as part of a team and effective communication skills are really important, often you will be the first point of our clients, forming strong bonds with them to ensure improved animal health and welfare.
We’d love to hear from applicants who bring a passion for supporting and developing student veterinary nurses, ideally with some experience of coaching, mentoring or assessing in practice. A good understanding of RCVS training standards and an interest in education, wellbeing and inclusive learning would be a real advantage.

Retail Cover Supervisor (Zero Hours) - Bridgnorth
Contract:Zero Hours Contract
Salary:£13.69 p/hour
Location:Bridgnorth, Shropshire
Closing date:Sunday 21st February 2026
Interview date:Interviews will be arranged as applications are received
As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll step in when it matters most – during busy periods, holidays, or staff absences – bringing your retail management experience to a role that’s varied, dynamic and rooted in the community.
More about the role
We’re based in a busy, tourist-friendly market town with a mixed economic demographic. While some parts of the high street have struggled, there’s still a strong mix of mid-range and independent shops, including a number of charity shops and a growing selection of cosmopolitan eateries and bars.
Our Bridgnorth shop is one of the highest-grossing Blue Cross outlets, with sales steadily increasing. We have a highly motivated team, and the shop is always presented beautifully and run efficiently – a truly high-performing team!
Customer service is at the heart of everything we do. You’ll ensure every visitor feels welcome – two-legged or four! – and that the shop is a friendly, inviting place to browse. You’ll also champion Blue Cross and the incredible work we do for pets and people whenever the opportunity arises.
Customer service is at the heart of everything we do. You’ll ensure every visitor feels welcome – two-legged or four! – and that the shop is a friendly, inviting place to browse. You’ll also champion Blue Cross and the incredible work we do for pets and people whenever the opportunity arises.
On the sales side, you’ll encourage Gift Aid sign-ups, process donations, price items to maximise fundraising, and keep the shop floor looking its best. From eye-catching window displays to tidy rails and shelves, you’ll make sure everything is attractive, safe, and ready to sell.
You’ll also lead and support our amazing team of volunteers, helping the day run smoothly while keeping the atmosphere positive and fun. We are currently struggling for volunteers so your leadership and energy will be key in motivating and supporting the team.
The shop thrives on community events and enjoys a loyal base of local customers alongside visitors. Good transport links make it easy to reach from larger West Midlands towns, though note there’s no nearby free parking.
About you
You’ll bring retail experience, ideally with some supervisory or management experience, and you’re confident dealing with all kinds of customers. Flexibility is key – shifts vary, so you’ll need to jump in when needed. You’re organised, practical, and ready to embrace whatever the day brings.
Your key responsibilities:
🐾 Support and motivate our fantastic volunteers
🐾 Make every customer feel welcome (dogs included!)
🐾 Keep the shop floor looking great and well-stocked
🐾 Ensure donations are processed, priced, and ready to sell
🐾 Bring energy, organisation, and a sense of humour to every shift
If you love a role that’s varied, community-driven, and part of a high-performing shop in a lively market town, we’d love to hear from you!
