We are seeking a Front of House Operator to join our team in the Catering Department. The purpose of this job is to ensure the efficient and smooth running of the Front of House including catering services to all required areas of the College.
This role would suit candidates with experience in a customer facing role, looking to take on more responsibility. Knowledge and experience of working in a catering/conference environment is preferred but not essential, as our experienced team will provide training in all aspects of the role. The successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills, able to work with minimal supervision, taking responsibility for a whole range of tasks - and happy to manage a busy workload.

We are seeking a Front of House Supervisor to join our team in the Catering Department.
The Front of House Supervisor will support the Front of House Manager in the efficient and smooth running of the Front of House including catering services to all required areas of the college. You will deputise for the Front of House Manager as required and will also help maintain full staff and casual work rotas. Although no formal qualifications are required, knowledge and experience of working in a catering/conference environment is essential as well as knowledge or the ability to learn and apply Food Hygiene guidelines. You will have good interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate others. An ability to cope with a varied workload is essential.

Research Fellowship in Arts
Applications are invited for Research Fellowship in Arts starting on 1 October 2026 and tenable for three years. This year’s competition invites applicants who work within one or more of the following disciplines: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Social Anthropology, and History.
The position is open to graduates of any university within or outside the United Kingdom. There is no age limit, but the fellowship is principally intended to support researchers at an early stage in their academic careers and will usually be awarded to a candidate who has recently completed a Ph.D. or is close to completion.
The competition involves the assessment of candidates’ submitted work and an interview. Candidates will be asked to provide a 600-word summary of current and future research. Long-listed candidates will be invited to submit two pieces of written work of no more than 10,000 words each, accompanied by a short note explaining how each fit into their overall research programme. Please note, all work should be submitted in English.
Candidates must provide details for two referees who have agreed to submit a reference through the website by the application deadline. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that both referees submit the references prior to the deadline. Candidates should note that the College cannot pay for international travel. We shall, however, cover the costs of travel within the UK and offer overnight accommodation at Girton. Overseas candidates may be interviewed online.
The current postdoctoral salary scale (from 1 August 2025) is £26,093 to £28,778, and the scale for pre-award of PhD is £25,249 to £27,319. The post-holder may undertake, should they wish, up to four hours of supervision (or small group teaching) per week during the twenty weeks of the teaching year. Any such teaching would provide additional income. The salary is pensionable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme and is paid monthly in arrears by bank transfer. Research Fellows may claim research expenses up to a total of £4,500 over the three years of the Fellowship.
Information on accommodation, if required, is available on request. Research Fellows are entitled to free commons (i.e., meals) for the duration of the fellowship, except when the kitchens are closed. Research Fellows are members of the College’s Governing Body.

The Cambridge Philosophical Society Henslow Fellowship 2026
Applications are invited for a Research Fellowship in science, starting on 1 October 2026 and tenable for three years. The Fellowship, which is sponsored by the Cambridge Philosophical Society, is open to graduates of any university working in the fields of Natural Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science and Clinical Sciences. It is open to graduates of any university with no age limit, but is intended to support those at an early stage in their academic careers, and will normally be awarded to a candidate who has recently completed a Ph.D. or is close to completion. It is expected that the holder of the Fellowship will pursue full-time research based in Cambridge.
The competition involves assessment of candidates’ submitted work and interview. Potential applicants should note that the standard needed to progress to the later stages of the competition is extremely high.
The appointed Research Fellow is required to provide the equivalent of between four and six hours of paid supervision teaching per week during the twenty weeks of the teaching year; in some circumstances, this requirement may be reduced in the first year of Fellowship. Of these hours, four per week will be at an enhanced rate of pay under a Category Aa Lectureship contract; additional hours up to the permitted maximum will be paid at the standard inter-collegiate rate.
The present salary scale (from 1 August 2025) for the fellowship is £42,254 and is subject to an annual Cost of Living review. The remuneration of the Fellowship is reviewed annually, is paid monthly in arrears by bank transfer and is pensionable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. The Research Fellow may claim research expenses up to a total of £5,000 over the three years. Accommodation may be available, if required, at a subsidised rate and further details can be obtained on request. All accommodation subsidies provided will be treated as a taxable benefit by the HMRC although College will pay the tax. All Research Fellows are entitled to free Commons (i.e., meals) except when the College kitchens are closed.
