Do you have a few hours a week to spare? Giving your time as a volunteer is a great way to support your local Hospice.
We need volunteers to help maintain our small fleet of vehicles!
Our Community Nurses and Fundraising Team rely on our fleet to commute throughout the local region, and these cars need some extra attention to help keep them available at all times.
Basic vehicle knowledge is all that’s needed to help!

Volunteer Evening Receptionists
St Nicholas Hospice Care is a successful and much-loved charity serving the local area of West Suffolk and Thetford. Every year we support nearly 2,000 local people, delivering care across multiple settings. Out services are not just for patients, but for their family and friends too, and include everything from specialist medical care to bereavement support and practical help.
We are currently seeking Volunteer Evening Receptionists to provide support on Reception from 16:00 – 20:00 during the week. This role acts as the first point of contact for visitors and families as well as internal/external healthcare professionals entering and exiting the building.

Volunteer Catering Assistant (Bistro)
Could you spare a few hours of your time helping out in our Bistro?
We are looking for Volunteer Catering Assistants to help out in our on-site Bistro.
The main duties will include:
- To serve meals, sandwiches, snacks and drinks to our staff, families and visitors
- To operate & clean the barista coffee machine
- To operate the till
- To keep the kitchen area clean and tidy, including helping with washing up and using the dishwasher
All our volunteers receive relevant training and support.

Volunteer Catering Assistant (Ward)
Could you spare a few hours of your time assisting with meal times on our Inpatient Unit?
We are looking for Volunteer Catering Assistants to assist patients, families and employees on our Inpatient Unit.
The main duties will include:
- To offer assistance where needed for IPU patients, including assisting patients with meal ordering, feeding and drinks (after relevant training). Escalating any concerns to the Nursing team.
- To provide beverages to patients alongside the catering team/Nursing team as required, and ensure water jugs are replenished regularly
- To assist in serving patients’ meals, removing trays, returning trolleys, crockery, etc to the main kitchen. Cleaning and packing away these items
- To update patient diet and fluid monitoring sheets
- To ensure the IPU kitchen is clean and tidy at all times, including loading/unloading the dishwasher, cleaning fridge/freezer etc.
- To ensure the staff fridge is regularly checked and cleaned

Volunteer Shop Assistants – Barton Road
Giving your time as a volunteer is a great way to support the Hospice. At the moment we really need people to help out with general shop tasks and/or till cover in our Barton Road shop on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday afternoons.
Additionally, we are looking to hear from those with a particular interest, experience, skill or flair for shop floor merchandising, linens, menswear or craft items. These roles can be flexible across any day of the week, morning or afternoon.
In return, you can expect to join a warm and welcoming team of paid staff and volunteer colleagues, enjoy the buzz of a busy and bustling retail environment, and all the feel good and social benefits that volunteering with St Nicholas Hospice offers.

Volunteer Shop Assistants – Mildenhall Shop
Giving your time as a volunteer is a great way to support the Hospice. At the moment we really need people to help out with general shop tasks such as sorting through donated clothes, pricing and putting out bric-a-brac, or serving customers at the till in our Mildenhall shop.
We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with availability on Wednesday or Saturday mornings or Thursday afternoons.

Volunteer Host Receptionist
St Nicholas Hospice Care is a successful and much-loved charity serving the local area of West Suffolk and Thetford. Every year we support nearly 2,000 local people, delivering care across multiple settings. Our services are not just for patients, but for their family and friends too, and include everything from specialist medical care to bereavement support and practical help.
Our volunteers give us vital support. We are currently seeking Volunteer Host Receptionists to help provide administrative support to the Receptionist team and a ‘meet and greet’ service to Hospice visitors, currently during the hours of 10:00 – 14:00. This role can be very varied, with some days being very busy and others much quieter, but the support of our hosts means that whatever happens, families and visitors will be greeted with a warm welcome.
At present we are looking for extra support in this role only on Thursdays and Fridays, however we would also welcome applications from those available for ad hoc cover.
