Person Specification Chief Executive Officer Experience • Considerable experience of working within the voluntary sector at a senior level in a leadership capacity. • Possess strong networks across the voluntary / statutory sectors in Nottingham / Nottinghamshire. • Experience of successful income generation through grant awards and other income channels. • Demonstrable experience of working with and influencing senior stakeholders both internally and externally. • Experience of managing, coaching or mentoring others, whilst able to delegate appropriately. • Prior involvement in developing and/or implementing organisational strategy. Knowledge • In-depth knowledge of the voluntary sector, preferably within Nottingham / Nottinghamshire. • Knowledge of voluntary sector drivers in respect of high-level policy decisions, structures and influencers within local government, health authorities, universities, national bodies and local community. • A deep understanding of the role of a Local Infrastructure Organisation and how they operate to support volunteering within a designated area. • Generalist level of knowledge and high-level understanding of the role of key back- office functions within a small, non-profit organisation and how these impact to support delivery teams (i.e., finance, marketing, fundraising, HR and H&S, IT etc.). • Able to effectively utilise social media and other digital outreach methods. Attributes / Skills / Behaviours • Sound financial skills: evidence of good budget management and good level of financial literacy (able to read and interpret accounts). • Computer literate, including the ability to work effectively remotely and with other remote workers where necessary. • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to champion change and engage stakeholders within a leadership role. • Willing to be hands-on when necessary. Job Description Job Title Chief Executive Officer Employed by Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service (NCVS) Location Hybrid: Nottingham City office base (Dryden Enterprise Centre) and community-based across the City, with flexible home working options Reports to Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service Board of Trustees Hours Full time, 35 hours per week Salary £55,000 - £57,000 per annum dependent on experience Role purpose As our Chief Executive Officer, you will be instrumental in overseeing the day-to-day and longer-term strategic operation of NCVS, ensuring we effectively support the needs of the voluntary sector in Nottingham. You will be responsible for ensuring the long-term financial stability and sustainability of NCVS and for representing NCVS in the community, maintaining and extending the organisation's visibility and profile with public sector partners. Key areas of responsibility Strategic leadership and organisational sustainability: Shape, review and implement organisational strategy with the Board to ensure long‑term resilience and alignment with NCVS’ purpose. Income generation and grant capture: Lead strategies to secure grants and develop new income streams to meet operational need Governance and KPI delivery: Work with Trustees to meet organisational performance targets, including governance, financial performance, relationship management and volunteer engagement. Operational leadership and staff management: Oversee day‑to‑day operations, line‑manage senior staff, mentor colleagues and model NCVS values. Stakeholder engagement and representation: Act as NCVS’ Lead representative, strengthening relationships with partners, funders, networks and sector bodies locally and nationally. Financial and organisational management: Provide oversight of budgets, financial planning and strategic resource allocation. Development of NCVS programmes and services: Lead and grow key workstreams that strengthen, support and champion the VSCE in Nottingham, aligning with NCVS mission and agreed with the Board, such as, social enterprise development, tendering support, workforce development, social prescribing support and other programmes agreed with the Board.
