Trustee (Technology Specialist)
We are a dynamic, entrepreneurial Charity working at the forefront of science and innovation and we are looking for trustees to join us in driving change, and making a meaningful, lasting impact.
We set up the world’s first stem cell register, born out of a parent’s belief that she could save her son’s life by finding a donor.
Sadly, at that time it wasn’t possible, but today, thanks to Shirley and Anthony Nolan, our world-leading stem cell register, our cell and gene therapy research and our expertise in stem cell transplants, we currently help four patients a day in need of a transplant, giving more people another chance to live.
But we know we can, and must, do so much more. Not all patients have access to the treatment they need. Many don’t survive. Others have to live with side effects of treatment. And every 13 minutes another person in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer or a blood disorder.
Over the last 50 years we’ve been working at the leading edge of cell therapies and made incredible progress. But we won’t stop until every patient who needs us can not only survive but thrive. Together with our donors, researchers, clinicians, nurses, and supporters, we’re dedicated to finding new treatments that will transform the future of cell therapies for more patients and more conditions.
Together, we’re hoping to build a fairer future for every patient. A future where everyone can expect effective treatment and a positive outcome. Our stem cells hold incredible potential.
Driven by patients, backed by stem cell donors, and powered by science, we’re determined to uncover the lifesaving potential of the cells inside us all.
What Are We Looking For?
To build on the breadth and depth of our current Board and to provide important succession planning, we are looking for Trustee candidates of all ages, with a variety of work and life experience who can bring their varied skills, expertise and ideas to our organisation.
We need all Anthony Nolan Trustees to be passionate about and committed to our values and objectives, and who are willing and able to devote the necessary time and effort to the role.
You will have strategic vision and the ability to contribute to decision-making conversations with integrity and work effectively as part of a team. Advocating for our work and helping us reach a wider audience are also important aspects of this role.
In particular we’re seeking a trustee with proven experience in business transformation within the technology space, alongside knowledge and experience in data and AI. Tech and data are key enablers for us, supporting core operational processes around stem-cell service provision, data capabilities around supporting and growing our stem-cell register and much more. We have an ambitious new technology strategy that this role will help support.
We would love to hear from professionals with previous experience of being a Trustee/Non-Executive Director, however this is not a pre-requisite.
We are looking for a Trustee with a varied background who can bring diversity of thought to the Board and ensure that we are representing all our patients. We know that these qualities will not only support us to engage with more diverse audiences, but also encourage robust debate, and support our effectiveness, leadership, and decision-making ability to act in the best interests of the Charity and in the public interest. You can read more about our commitment to Diversity & Inclusion here.
Role Summary
In this role you will advise our Senior Leadership Team and Chief Executive, applying your own experience and expertise to ensure that we are solvent, well-run, and delivering charitable outcomes for the benefit of patients, donors and customers in our transplant community.
You will sit on the Board for at least one 3-year term (with the possibility of being re-elected for an additional term), attending approximately 6 meetings per year (one of which is a full-day strategy meeting) at our head office in Hampstead, London. The role of a Trustee is voluntary, though reasonable expenses incurred while on Anthony Nolan business will be reimbursed.
What’s in it for you?
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for professional development and wishing to help shape the future of Anthony Nolan.
You will get to collaborate and work with our current Board of Trustees, hear from our colleagues and make a difference to our patients.
We have a full Trustee induction process and ongoing training to support you through your term, and you will have the opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge of the charity sector and meet other like-minded professionals.
If you think you might have the skills and experience we are looking for, we'd love to hear from you.
