JOB DESCRIPTION NURSERY PRACTITIONERS FOR HOLIDAY PROVISION - IMMEDIATE START Little Oaks Nursery at Howe Green House School is offering an exciting opportunity for ambitious, motivated and professional Level 2 or 3 qualified practitioners to join our friendly and experienced team to work during our holiday provision. The Nursery provides care for children from 2 to 4 years old and offers a holiday provision out of term time from 7:30am until 5:30pm. The post requires initiative, patience, flexibility and a desire to become part of a happy and purposeful team. JOB DESCRIPTION LSA – 1:1 support We are seeking to employ a Learning Support Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a child in EYFS. The role will include supporting a child’s learning as directed by the class teacher to ensure that they can access the curriculum to their full potential in a positive, safe and caring learning environment. Qualifications in learning support or special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are highly desirable, particularly expertise in speech and language development and phonics. Responsibilities of the post: The Learning Support Assistant’s (LSA) main role is to provide 1:1 support for a child. The LSA will ensure that the pupil can integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by the other children in the class and make progress. Duties will include running specific programmes and activities to assist the pupil’s individual learning and social needs. REQUIREMENTS Requirements Essential / Desirable Education / Qualifications and Training Have GCSE, ‘O’ Level or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English. Essential Skills and Experience Have NVQ2 or equivalent as recognised by the National Occupational Standards for Supporting Teaching and Learning (NOS-STL). Desirable Hold QTS or be a HLTA. Desirable Have experience of the EYFS curriculum. Essential Have an interest in how children learn and behave. JOB DESCRIPTION Main Responsibilities The role involves working as part of a team, to ensure the supervision of pupils throughout break and lunch periods, with some additional classroom support in between these times. Key responsibilities include; • To promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young persons and comply fully with the requirements as set out in the DfE document ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and any relevant supplementary guidance. • To liaise with the Head of Prep and the Head of Pre-Prep to ensure breaktimes and lunchtimes operate efficiently within the Dining and Playground areas and to assist teaching staff during wet breaks as necessary. • Ensure pupils are enjoying their lunch break. • Involve pupils in outside/inside activities. • Assist in the dining area and encourage pupils to eat their chosen meal or packed lunch. • To understand and comply with the school’s policies and procedures. • To understand and comply with Health and Safety regulations, ensure that any hazards, near miss incidents and accidents are reported appropriately. • Manage behaviour effectively, inline with our behaviour policy, to ensure a good and safe environment where children can enjoy their play activities. • To assist in maintaining discipline by dealing with minor matters and reporting serious incidents to a member of the Senior Leadership Team in line with the school’s policies and procedures. • To be responsible for a group of pupils throughout the lunch period. • Support class teachers in the classroom between break duties, for example listening to children read or creating resources. • To encourage good eating practices, e.g. assisting pupils by cutting up food for younger age groups. • To deal with minor incidents e.g. food spillages on floors and children. • To maintain site security and approach visitors entering school premises.
