Are you a musician who is seeking to combine your skills, faith and creativity in a unique and beautiful setting? We might just have the job for you.
The Iona Community is seeking a gifted and collaborative Musician to join our Abbey team on the Isle of Iona for the 2026 season. You’ll help shape and coordinate the music and singing for our twice-daily worship in the iconic Iona Abbey. You’ll also help to lead ‘Wee Sing’ sessions for guests from around the world and provide other support for our weekly Abbey guest programme.
Working in collaboration with the Iona Community’s Wild Goose Resource Group, you’ll represent and contribute to the musical culture that the Iona Community is known for across the world.
The Iona Community is an international, ecumenical Christian movement working for peace and justice, the rebuilding of community and the renewal of worship. Living and working on Iona is more than a job; it’s a shared way of life rooted in hope, faith and hospitality.
This post contains an element of regulated work and as such is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and the post-holder will need to be or to become a member of Scotland’s Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing high quality musical input to worship services, and guest programme sessions
- Encouraging and enabling guest and staff to participate in the Abbey service.

- Ensure compliance with copyright laws, by accurate recording and reporting
- Fully participate in the life of the Iona Community on Iona

Director and Trustee of the Iona Community - Role Profile The Memorandum and Ar.cles of Associa.on of the Iona Community s.pulates that the Iona Community should have up to fi;een Directors, also known as Trustees. The Directors cons.tute the body known as Council. The majority (normally eight) shall be full Members. At least two of the directors shall be members of the Young Adults Group. For the rest not less than three and not more than five shall be appointed from outwith the membership. Council members are appointed for a period of 4 years, a;er which they may be eligible for re-appointment for up to a further four years. (Ar$cle 23). Any casual vacancies that may occur within the Council shall be filled by the Appointments Panel’s recommenda.on to Council. A person co-opted to fill a casual vacancy will hold office up to the expiry date of the term of office of the person whom they are replacing and will then be eligible for reappointment for one further term. (Ar$cle 27). Purpose of the role A Director is appointed as a member of Council. The Council shall be responsible for the planning and carrying out of the policy of the Community, and for the administra.on, management and control of the affairs and property of the Community, and generally may exercise all such powers of the Community and do on its behalf all such acts as may be exercised and done by the Community. The Council shall appoint and employ such officers and staff as they consider necessary and shall regulate their du.es and fix their salaries. (Ar$cle 30). Council members also hold the role of charity Trustees. They are responsible for the Iona Community’s governance and strategy, ensuring that it is administered effec.vely. Trustees account for the ac.vi.es and outcomes of the different areas of the Community’s work. A Trustee must seek, in good faith, to ensure that the Iona Community operates in a manner consistent with its purposes, vision and values, and acts with care and diligence. The objects for which the Iona Community is established are detailed by statute in its Memorandum and Ar.cles of Associa.on. The Trustee role is one of strategic oversight and governance. Employed staff are responsible for the opera.onal management of their areas of work, overseen by the Execu.ve Director and the Leader of the Community. Key responsibili=es Trustees will use their professional skills and experience alongside their personal gi;s to support the work of the Council in developing and delivering on the aims and objec.ves of the wider Iona Community. All the trustees have charity trustee du.es and through Council share collec.ve responsibility. Trustees will ac.vely contribute in Council to: Company No: SC096243 Charity No: SC003794 1 • • ensure the charity operates in a manner consistent with its purposes, as set out in the governing document act with care and diligence • manage any conflict of interest between the charity and any person or organisa=on who appoints trustees • • • • ensure all the Community’s ac=vi=es are within the law (Chari=es and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005) ensure the keeping of proper accoun=ng records take control of how the charity raises funds take advice from properly qualified persons in maMers on which they are not themselves expert • have responsibility for the charity’s reputa=on, guarding its ethos and values Trustees will do this by par.cipa.ng in an engaged way in decision making and ensuring effec.ve oversight and scru.ny through robust ques.oning and broad thinking. Individual Trustees will also have specific liaison roles in areas of governance and strategy. Time commitment Trustees currently meet in Council five .mes yearly. Four mee.ngs are by video- teleconference link, generally las.ng 2 hours, and one mee.ng in person over 2 days. Some Trustees will also have roles in serving the Community Resources (3 trustees) and Community Life (3 trustees) commi^ees, the Iona Community Trading Company (3 trustees) and in liaison roles for other aspects of the Community's work, these commi^ees also meet 5 .mes per year in advance of Council mee.ngs and again generally last 2 hours. Trustees will give .me in advance of Council mee.ngs to read papers and contribute via phone, video-teleconference link and email to correspondence rela.ng to the work of the Council. Specific liaison roles for individual Trustees may require addi.onal mee.ngs or contribu.ons by video-teleconference link or email correspondence. Who we are looking for
We are keen to hear from people who are aligned with the vision, purpose and values of the Iona Community and who can contribute thoughtfully and constructively to Council discussions.
Applicants may be Members, Associate Members, Friends of the Iona Community, or people from beyond the membership. We are particularly mindful of the need for a diverse mix of skills, backgrounds, perspectives and life experience on Council, and welcome applications from people who may not have previous trustee experience.
Trustees are encouraged to bring both professional expertise and a willingness to engage deeply with the life, faith and common task of the Community.
Time commitment
Council meets five times per year:

Financial Administration Team Leader
Are you an experienced finance professional with strong leadership skills? Join the Iona Community as our Financial Administration Team Leader, a pivotal role overseeing the day-to-day operations of our finance department. You will ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely financial processes, supporting the wider organisation and reporting directly to the Head of Community Resources.
We are looking for someone self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently and as part of a team, experienced in using Xero, with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management.
Key Responsibilities include
- Lead the daily operations of the finance administration function
