The Role:

Key Responsibilities:

The Candidate:
- At least 1 year of retail experience or fast paced environment experience

- Some knowledge/experience with children’s merchandise is desirable
- Reside within 45 minutes of the shop
Working Times:
- Shop Opening Hours: 09:30 – 17:30

Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and organized Ecommerce Books Assistant to enhance our ecommerce books business. This role is crucial for developing efficient processing systems that maximize revenue from books donated to FARA. You will work closely with our specialist book shops, manage stock received at our central hub, and ensure that every book is optimally allocated to the right sales channels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and document clear processing systems for sorting and allocating donated books.
- Ensure accurate research and listing of book stock, maintaining high service standards.
- Manage promotional campaigns and our dedicated Instagram account to drive sales.
- Liaise with publishing houses and downstream sellers to secure high-value sales opportunities.
- Sort, research, and value incoming donations efficiently and accurately.
- Prepare items for online listings, including photography and writing detailed descriptions.
- Handle customer inquiries and ensure prompt shipping of sold items using sustainable materials.
Qualifications:
- Strong interest and knowledge in books, particularly in researching valuable editions and features.
- Proven experience in ecommerce or online sales channels, specifically related to books.
- Excellent organizational skills with a knack for implementing efficient systems.

This role is temporary, covering a period of Maternity Leave. FARA has 39 Charity Shops in London and over 30 years of experience in Charity Retailing. Our charity shops are tailored to each local community, and we aim to respond to our customers’ needs by providing excellent customer service, a pleasant shopping experience, great value for money, a very creative stock display, and visual merchandise. All this can only be possible with the help and dedication of our fantastic teams, from Volunteers to Shop Managers who bring into their everyday roles unique and amazing skills.
For over 30 years, apart from creating employment on the UK job market, our Charity Shops profits are invested in the prevention of homelessness, supporting adults with learning disabilities, caring for vulnerable children, providing specialized treatment for children with disabilities, providing community-based education and social support programs for disadvantaged families in Romania.
Working times
- Location: FARA Teddington Kids Shop, London, TW11 8JD
- Shop Opening Hour: 09:30 – 17:30
- 8-hour shift/ 30min break
- 5 days per week rota, (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
*Location, days, and times of work can always be changed by the Management. Our shops are open 7 days per week and time sheets may vary across our 41 shops 9-5, 10-6, 11-7
The role
The Assistant Manager’s main role is to support the Shop Manager and the team in the effective running of the shop while maintaining high levels of service for our customers. As an Assistant Manager your duties will include:
- Assisting the Shop Manager in organizing and planning daily strategies
- Assisting the Shop Manager with team building
- Leading by example
- Following and helping implement Company Policies and Procedures
- Dealing with customer issues and queries effectively
- Creating and maintaining a welcoming ambiance
- Networking with customers and the local community
- Maintaining a clean and tidy working environment
- Shop Displays
- Pricing
- Till and Cash handling
- Manual Handling
- Steaming clothes
Other duties include but are not limited to paperwork, admin, Gift Aid (signup and processing), sorting donations, steaming of clothes, pricing, displays, till handling, cashing up, manual handling, maintaining a clean tidy, and safe working environment.
The candidate
- At least 1 year experience as a Team Leader / Assistant Manager
- At least 1 year of Retail Management experience
