Outline of the roleAbout the roleWe are seeking an experienced, proactive & highly motivated Finance Officer.The successful candidate will ideally have experience of managing accounts inthe charity sector and / or experience of working within an accountancy firm.The purpose of the role is to support the Finance Team in keeping accuratefinancial records of the charity and The Wave Project retail operation.The role includes maintaining accurate financial information that supportsstrong decision-making across the charity. The successful candidate will buildcross-team relationships, working closely with the fundraising and operationalteams, as well as the CEO. The role will also require the candidate to be able towork independently with confidence. The role will be responsible for theaccurate and timely recording of all income streams and expenditure, toensure all project spending is clearly understood, well-managed andcompliant.Working with the Head of Finance, further training and development will beoffered to further your knowledge base.At The Wave Project, we take our Safeguarding responsibilities seriously. Key ResponsibilitesUpdate the charity’s bookkeeping system (currently Xero) with all ledgers,ensuring funds are allocated to the appropriate nominal codes.Produce invoices for referral partners and other organisation, and ensurepayment of these.Process all supplier invoices and arrange timely payment.Process Gift Aid claims.Completion of VAT returns.Be confident with journal processes within the accounts package to allow foraccurate reporting (training can be given).Prepare monthly financial statements, such as P&L, balance sheet and cash flow.Work in partnership with the fundraising team to track pledged income, ensureincome is accurately recorded and allocated.Maintain accurate records of all restricted grants, including tracking expenditureagainst budgets and supporting funder reporting.Provide the fundraising and operational teams with timely financial data tosupport applications, reporting and stewardship.Support the Finance Team with the audit process throughout the year bycontinually collating information. Support the Finance Team with the annual audit, providing all evidence collatedover the year as well as additional evidence as requested.To take learning from each audit to improve our systems year on year, to keepaudit fees to a minimum.Assist with the preparation of Year End returns.Under the guidance of the Head of Finance, support the organisation to prepareand monitor annual budgets for multiple budget holders.Maintain the accuracy and consistency of financial data by reviewing records,correcting issues, and improving data entry processes and controls.Ensure compliance with Charities Commission regulations. Assist with the submission of reports to all statutory bodies, such as CharitiesCommission and Companies House.You may be required to undertake other reasonable duties which are compatiblewith the overall scope of this appointment.Watching them soar high above the wavesbrought great pride too. Each month he now gets excitedabout what Surf Club have to offer, and weare now booked into the next Flow Rider andlooking forward to Christmas Surf. I highlyrecommend this experience for all ages itwas a wonderful opportunity that we arevery privileged to be able to take part in andcontinue.Surf Therapy parent The Wave Project has been an invaluablelife changing experience for my foster son. He has always loved and been confident inthe water. However, Surf Therapy offeredsomething more than that, they created alittle family with friendship, security andsmiles all round. Their encouragement and100% dedication as a group of volunteersleft a positive lasting impression upon myfoster son. What started as an apprehensive journeyeach week to our favourite beach for TheWave Project soon turned into anadventure of sheer excitement andenjoyment. He came alive in the sea,laughed and smiled abundantly. He tookrisk, learning to first kneel and then standup, riding the waves.My wonderful boy who really struggles withfriendship and communication built arelationship with his Wave Project buddy,an unbreakable trust as my boy rodethrough the waves.I cannot thank them enough for that. Thiswas not only my foster son’s journey, I alsoenjoyed being part of group, watching andnoticing all the other children and youngpeople come alive, overcome their fears ofwater and other new things.
