Are you honest, respectful, fun, compassionate, and kind? If so, you might be exactly who we’re looking for.
At MacIntyre, we support adults with learning disabilities in Wigan to live meaningful, fulfilling lives. We recruit based on values, not experience — because we believe the right attitude matters more than a CV. Full training is provided.
Why a Support Worker role?
Many people join us from retail, hospitality, care, admin, or customer service — often because they want something more rewarding and stable. While many sectors are changing or shrinking, the social care sector continues to grow, offering:
- Long-term job security
- Clear career progression

- Truly meaningful work
What does the role involve?
You will be supporting Andrew in his goal to live more independently. He has made good progress towards this. Recent steps include taking on a few volunteer roles and being able to go away on holiday.he is currently working on improving how he manages his own money.
He is in his mid-forties. He enjoys having a good chat about films, TV, music, football and horse racing.
There is no personal care required in this role, but when feeling unsettled, Andrew's behaviour can be challenging, and part of your job will be to work with him to manage his verbal aggression. We will give you full specialist training around this.
It’s about being there, encouraging independence, and celebrating individuality.
Whilst mainly focussed on supporting Andrew, you will also work with a team that support two other gentleman who live locally.

Job Description
Help people shine - join MacIntyre as a full-time Learning Support Worker and help others grow, thrive, and learn new skills everyday!
At MacIntyre, we believe that learning doesn't just happen in classrooms, it happens everywhere. We're on the lookout for creative, positive people to join our bustling team in Chesterfield, where we support over 100 people to live gloriously ordinary lives. Whether in our Learning Centres, out and about in the local area, or during the little everyday moments - a chat over coffee, a trip to the shop - every moment is an opportunity for you to support somebody to build their confidence, discover new interests, and develop life skills.
We’re all about connection – to each other, to our communities, and to meaningful experiences. That’s what our ‘Everyone Everywhere’ approach is all about. You’ll be supporting adults with learning disabilities in a role that’s as rewarding as it is varied. One day, you might be helping someone learn how to cook their favourite meal, the next you could be supporting them to volunteer, explore a new hobby, or build independence in everyday tasks. Your UK manual driving licence will also unlock opportunities beyond the local area for people to do the things they want to do.
We're looking for people who really listen, who pay attention to the little things, and who tune in to what people love, need, and enjoy. If you're thoughtful, ambitious, and willing to go the extra mile to support people to live life on their own terms, we'd love to have you on board.
"Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorships as we await further guidance from the Home Office. Applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered at this time. We appreciate your understanding."

Then this position is for you! We are looking for a full-time / part-time Support Worker who has great attention to detail, is resilient and truly wants to make a difference in people’s lives.
What will you be doing?
We always aim to have a positive impact on the day-to-day life of the people who draw on our support. Your day as a Support worker will often start with helping them get ready in the morning, including having a shower or bath, using the bathroom and getting dressed. From here, every day is different. You may be supporting them whilst they go shopping, keep fit, go to their weekly clubs and activities, or simply keeping them company whilst they stay in and watch their favourite TV shows. You may also need to support them to take medication and attend medical appointments, but full training will be provided.
As you've probably worked out these individuals are full of life and fun to be with, could you support them to lead lives that make sense to them? We are hoping that you can bring new ideas and introduce us to more things that we can do.
Who will you be supporting?
You will be providing invaluable support to 10 people aged between 25-70 who have either a physical or learning disability, and/or autism. Everyone who draws on our support have their own flat at the service which gives them the freedom to live their own lives. You will be supporting everyone, helping them gain their independence and supporting them to learn new life skills.
What about pay?
In Birkenhead, MacIntyre Support Workers will earn an hourly rate of £12.00, meaning your annual salary will be £23,463. In addition to your annual salary, you’ll have the opportunity to work sleep-ins* at an extra £60 per night. This adds an extra £2,880 to your annual salary if you do 1 sleep in a week. There is also often overtime hours available too!
*Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorships as we await further guidance from the Home Office. Applications requiring sponsorship cannot be considered at this time. We appreciate your understanding.*

What do we want from you?
We are looking for people who share our values, who are warm, friendly and willing to learn, and also who celebrate people’s differences. At MacIntyre, we strive to make all of our staff feel included, valued and respected, just like the people we support.
You don't have to have any past care experience but a kind, caring, creative and patient attitude is a must. We will train you on all the formal key skills you will need in terms of Emergency first aid, safeguarding and giving medication. We hold a number of full and half day training courses (9am-4pm) that you will be expected to attend whilst you are working with MacIntyre, but don’t worry, you will be given plenty of notice.
Due to the needs of the people we support, holding a manual UK driving licence is desirable as your ability to drive unlocks the opportunities for people to do the things they really enjoy! However this is not essential as the service has access to many forms of public transport.
We provide support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and so the ability to work bank holidays and weekends is desirable. You will be working on a shift pattern which may include regular early morning starts (7am) and late evening finishes (10pm). Job Description
Join the team supporting Callum in his first home! We are looking for a Male Support Worker.
Are you fun, upbeat, and ready to make a real difference in someone’s life?
We’re putting together a brand-new team to support a fantastic young man, Callum, as he takes a big and exciting step — moving into his very first home!
Callum is full of personality and has lots of interests to share. He’s been attending college for the past two years, where he's settled in brilliantly and built some great friendships. Now, he’s looking forward to building his independence with a team who really gets him.
What’s important for Callum?
- Trust is key — Callum takes time to get to know new people, and we’ll be with you every step of the way as you build that connection.
- Facial expressions and positivity matter! Callum loves to see you smile and show that you’re happy to be spending time with him.
- He enjoys being alongside his support team — encouraging him, praising him, and getting involved in his favourite activities.
Callum’s favourite things include:
- Splashing and relaxing with water play
- Watching everything from Mrs Browns Boys to High School Musical on his iPad
- Getting outdoors walking — in any weather! Callum is a big fan of litter picking and keeping active
- A love for structure and busy, purposeful days
What we’re looking for in you:
- Upbeat, encouraging, and patient — someone who takes time to build trust
- Physically active and happy to be out walking in all kinds of weather
- Confident working with others — Callum’s family will be a big part of this journey and we’ll work closely together
- Willing to be part of a small, consistent team that puts Callum at the heart of everything
- You don't have to have any past care experience but a kind, caring, creative and patient attitude is a must. We will train you on all the formal key skills you will need in terms of Emergency first aid, safeguarding and giving medication. We hold a number of training courses that you will be expected to attend whilst you are working with MacIntyre, but don’t worry, you will be given plenty of notice.
- You must however have a resilient, patient and compassionate attitude as there may be times where you will need to help Callum control and regulate his emotions and anxiety in line with his Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plan. But please do not worry, full training on this will be provided
- Driving isn’t essential — while Callum has a mobility car, he’s just as happy on public transport or walking.
If you're someone who believes in supporting people to live life their way — with fun, respect, and encouragement — we’d love to hear from you.
This is more than a job. It’s the start of something amazing for Callum — and maybe for you, too.

Job Description
Looking for a Role that Fits Your Lifestyle? A Term-Time Education Role Might Be Perfect for You!
Are you looking for a fulfilling job that allows you to make a real difference in the lives of others? Join our team in Great Holm, Milton Keynes, where we’re expanding to support a growing number of students. No experience in education? Don't worry – we believe in your potential, and we’ll provide the training you need to succeed!
- Full-time (38 hours)
- 37 weeks per year contract
- Comprehensive training and ongoing professional development
- A chance to be part of a supportive and inclusive team that makes a real difference
As a Community Teaching Facilitator, you won’t be confined to the classroom. You’ll work with young people whose learning difficulties or autism make mainstream education less suitable for their needs. With a focus on individualised learning, you’ll teach essential life skills and provide lessons in literacy, numeracy, and ICT, all tailored to each student's unique needs.
One of the many rewarding stories we share is that of Amanda*. When Amanda started with us, she was being supported 2:1 at her previous school and had been excluded from group lessons. By creating a personalised communication system, we helped Amanda take control of her learning experience. This gave her confidence, reduced challenging behaviours, and allowed her to engage in group activities, eventually forming friendships with her peers. This is just one example of the impact you can have when you work with us.
At the heart of everything we do are our core values, and they shape the way we approach education and support. Our DNA includes:
- Ambition for ourselves and for each other– We’re committed to growing and developing as a team, always striving to be better for those we help.
- Everyone has a voice and is listened to– Whether you’re a student, a parent, or a team member, your voice matters.
- We keep on learning– In this role, you’ll be constantly learning and evolving to meet the needs of those we support.
- We want equality– We are committed to providing equal opportunities and support for every person we work with.
- Everyone feels safe and in control– We prioritise creating a safe, supportive environment where all can thrive.
- We value friends, family, and neighbourhoods– Strong communities are key to success, and we foster those connections every day.

You will need GCSE (or equivalent) C grade or above in English and Maths and we will support you to gain a Level 3 Award in Education and Training, free of charge, as this is a requirement for the role. If you already hold this qualification, please state this on your application.

Support Worker Waking Nights
Job reference:005092
Salary:£12.30 per hour
Closing date:31/01/2026
Location:Stoke Mandeville
Job Description
Waking Nights Support Worker – 18 hours a week
Are you looking for night work? Would you like to support adults with learning disabilities if they wake during the night?
We are looking for a Waking Night Support Worker to join our friendly team of Support Workers in Stoke Mandeville! Even though it is a night time position, we all know a good night’s sleep is important for how we feel the next day, so you will be making a real difference in someone’s life even when they are asleep.
The role is a part-time position 2 nights per week 10:00pm - 7:00am
What will you be doing?
As a Waking Nights Support Worker, your main role will be regularly checking in on the people who draw on our support whilst they sleep, making sure that everything is ok and that they are getting a good night’s sleep. Sometimes they wake-up during the night, and so you will then support them in whatever they may need. This may be reassuring and chatting with them so that they are able to go back to sleep, or providing support with personal care and medication. Most importantly, your role is to make sure the people who draw on our support are safe and do not feel vulnerable throughout the night.
You will support three individuals who have been living together since 2014. They enjoy getting out and about as much as possible, whether that's cycling, bowling, swimming, going on holiday or to the cinema so a good nights sleep is essential.
All three individuals are non-verbal, so you'll learn how to communicate using visual tools and verbal prompts. You'll discover that every tiny thing you do has an impact, and when you get it right, you'll know you've got it right: you'll see someone's body relax or their eyes light up.

About you
You don't need experience for this role at MacIntyre. We’re looking for passionate people who have the right attitude and share our values. If you’re someone who celebrates differences, values inclusion, and is eager to learn, you’ll be a great fit for our team.
Who are we?
At MacIntyre School we have four modern houses within the school campus adjacent to the heart of the village of Wingrave. Each house accommodates up to five young people in their own bedrooms, decorated and equipped to their individual tastes. The homes are registered in pairs, which means you will work over two homes supporting up to ten young people with the support of a large staff team and experienced home managers.
We’re absolutely delighted to announce that following our recent Ofsted inspection, our children's homes were awarded a glowing 'Good' rating! The inspectors had some truly wonderful feedback, including:
"Staff value children's voices and use individualised communication aids creatively to gain children's views. For example, one child is helped to express their views through story telling. Staff work with the organisations' therapists to help children to develop their vocabulary. Children can regularly give their views on the home including activities, room décor and foods."
"Staff are attentive to children, and they respond promptly to help children calm when they are upset. Staff use known calming strategies, such as fragrances and massage, to help children feel better. Staff seek out ways to reduce restrictions for children, such as replacing a mechanical walking restraint with an object of reference. One professional said, ‘Staff have good insight into the underlying reasons for a child’s distress and work well to reduce incidents for them.’"
We celebrate the successes and personal gifts of each child – we want our staff to be aspirational for the young people we support. When presented with new challenges, our teams collaborate to ensure the homes remain a supportive place to come to work.

At Macintyre we fully support your training and development to become the best Support Worker you can be. Support Worker
Job reference:005111
Salary:£12.88 - £13.38 per hour
Closing date:02/02/2026
Location:St Albans
Job Description
Are you driven to make a real difference in children's lives? Join our dedicated team as a Support Worker at our children's home, and work to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels secure, valued, and loved.
We are seeking a full-time Support Worker to join our team in St Albans, working with children and young people who love staying active, trying new activities, and exploring new places. You'll work a mixture of early shifts from 7am - 3pm, late shifts from 2pm - 10pm, as well as alternating weekends.
You will support four children and young people with learning disabilities in all aspects of their daily lives, bringing your good humour and resilience to make each day both enjoyable and meaningful. From helping them get ready for school and preparing meals to assisting with household chores, you'll see the children's confidence grow as they achieve new milestones.
While new experiences are exciting, your reassuring, calm presence will provide the stability the children need to thrive, guiding them through structured days and teaching essential life skills. While the children are at school, you'll help make their home a welcoming place to return to by tidying and preparing the weekly activity plan for predictable and engaging evenings. You'll also assist with personal care and medication to help each child feel their best. Additionally, you'll have opportunities for personal development through bespoke training and working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
During the school holidays and weekends, you'll help ease the transition from school routines to having fun by supporting the young people on exciting outings like visiting the beach or theme parks, as well as engaging with each child's own interests:
- Alex* enjoys his quiet moments, whether it's reading stories with a cup of tea, relaxing in the sensory room, or visiting the farm.
- Arnold is always up for an episode of his favourite soaps, shopping, and finds real achievement in his work experience at the local charity shop.
- Dave loves getting his hands dirty, exploring the garden, and playing in the mud. He's also known for his impish laughter and tickles in the lounge, and spending time in the park with staff.
- Jack has a real sense of play - he loves puzzles, playing games on his iPad, and water play. He's also a fan of his favourite Disney films and has even enjoyed a trip to the theatre.
If you're compassionate, dedicated, and really care about helping children reach their full potential, we'd love to hear from you.
You must be a driver with a UK manual/automatic licence, as you will be driving service vehicles to unlock opportunities for the children. You must also have your own transport that is insured for business use.

Employee Engagement Officer
At MacIntyre, relationships matter. Listening matters. Feeling valued at work matters because when colleagues feel heard, supported and included, the people we support benefit too.
We’ve created a new Employee Engagement Officer role to help strengthen staff voice, wellbeing and inclusion across the organisation. Sitting at the heart of MacIntyre’s DNA, this role works closely with colleagues, staff networks and people who draw on support to help shape how we work together.

You’ll play a key role in supporting and connecting our staff networks, helping them grow, stay meaningful and have real impact.
This includes:
- Coordinating and chairing the Staff Council, MacIntyre’s staff representative group, ensuring staff voices are heard and fed into the organisation in a clear and supportive way

Job Description
Looking for a meaningful career where no two days are the same? Welcome to No Limits at MacIntyre.
At MacIntyre, we don’t just offer jobs — we offer opportunities to change lives. If you've ever imagined working in education but outside the confines of a traditional classroom, this could be your perfect next step.
No Limits is our innovative education programme for young people aged 16+ with learning disabilities and/or autism. Together, we explore real-world learning — in the community, in work placements, and through personalised support that adapts to each young person’s interests and needs.
This role is term-time only (39 weeks per year), working 3 days per week.
In this role, you’ll support young people on their journey to independence. You’ll help them build confidence, develop essential life skills, and discover their own unique path into adulthood.
You might be supporting someone like Harriet*:
Harriet found the classroom overwhelming. With social anxiety and a speech impediment, she often felt unheard and unsupported. When Harriet joined No Limits, we worked closely with her to understand her communication style, introduce assistive technology, and empower her to make choices in her day-to-day life. Now, she’s confidently ordering her own food in cafés and is thriving at college with support from the MacIntyre team.
What we’re looking for:
We’re not looking for formal teaching experience — we’ll provide full training. What really matters is who you are:
Are you warm, energetic and curious about people?
Can you see potential where others see challenge?
Do you believe in listening first, then acting with empathy and creativity?
If yes, you’re already speaking our language.
You’ll need a full UK manual driving licence, as travel is an essential part of the role.
Why join us?
A role with
real variety— every day brings something newThe chance to work 1:1 or in small groups with young people in their own communities
Ongoing training and development in a
supportive, values-led organisationThe opportunity to be part of a team that puts
relationships and respectat the heart of everything we do
This is more than a job. It’s a chance to be someone who makes a difference, helping young people grow in confidence, build independence, and feel proud of who they are.
If you're ready to start a career where you matter as much as the people you support, we’d love to hear from you.
MacIntyre – Empowering people to live a life that makes sense to them.

About you
Experience is not essential. For us, underlying ability and attitude are just as important as background and experience.
If you have not worked in the field of education before then please don’t be put off. We can provide all of the specialist training you need, but we can't train you to have initiative, to be friendly and patient, and those are essential qualities for this work.
You must be a driver with a UK Manual Driving Licence and have your own transport, willing and able to travel across the area, supporting young people from their own homes. Reasonable mileage is reimbursed.
GCSEs (or equivalent) minimum C grade in English and Mathematics are essential.
Some more things you need to know:
- Most of your work will be during term-time but there is up to three weeks' training and development commitment during academic holidays
- Some young people require assistance with personal care or medication
About us
MacIntyre is a national charity which supports over 1,200 people with a learning disability and/or autism.

No Limits is our further education division, providing bespoke education programmes to children and young people for whom more traditional learning environments are not appropriate.
Training and Development

We know it can be daunting to start a new job, and not everyone learns the same way, so throughout your probation we will provide you with a mixture of eLearning, face-to-face training and mentoring support whilst on the job.
