Job Description
We’re looking for an Assistant Curator (Maternity Cover) to join our Story Development team and help research, develop and share the Museum’s collections and stories.
Caring for around 3 million objects, our collections tell the social, industrial and agricultural history of the North East. This role plays a key part in caring for our collections, and in broadening and deepening the stories we tell, ensuring they are inclusive, representative and shaped by the communities we serve.

- Collaborative, well organised, able to work to deadlines and confident with project coordination
- Passionate about inclusive storytelling, motivated to broaden representation and deepen understanding of the North East’s stories
- Have experience or knowledge of museum practices, processes and the management of museum collections
This is a fixed‑term maternity cover role, with some flexibility required, including occasional weekends or evenings.

Job Description

We’re excited to launch our first paid placement as part of the Into the Light programme—designed to support people of all ages into meaningful, paid work experience across County Durham’s vibrant creative and cultural sector.
Location: Coalfield Studios, Ushaw Historic House, Woodland Road, Durham DH7 9RG
Duration: 8 weeks
Hours: 20 hours per week (days/times agreed)Pay: £252/week (subject to statutory deductions)Travel Bursary: £25 per week
About the Placement
This exciting temporary paid placement offers the chance to work directly with Coalfield Studios, a dynamic filmmaking company producing documentaries, client films and creative visual content. You will mainly be editing films using Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve software, and will gain practical experience in operating professional cameras, setting up lighting on set, recording high‑quality audio, assisting with filming on location, seeing how a filmmaking and photography company runs day-to-day
This placement is ideal for someone with foundation level editing experience who wants to build confidence, learn from an industry professional and develop a portfolio through real creative projects.

Job Description
We are currently looking for Cleaners (Seasonal to 31st December 2026) to join our Facilities and Cleaning Team at Beamish Museum. You’ll work across the museum site to maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, helping to ensure a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
This is a hands‑on, public‑facing role requiring flexibility, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and school holidays.
We welcome applicants with cleaning experience or transferable skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to work as part of a team.
