The post holder will be involved in performing routine audits, as well as matters of governance and risk management at the branches. The role combines some autonomy, interesting and varied work and opportunities to make valued contributions in shaping and improving the union’s operations and processes. The Auditor will be based at the UNISON Centre in London.
The role will involve extensive travelling to branches and regional offices across the UK with regular overnight stays, to conduct audits and to provide training to lay and regional officers.
Responsibilities and duties will include all aspects of internal auditing in a large multi-cost centre environment requiring robust planning, reporting and support across the organisation, whilst working alongside other colleagues within the finance function, senior managers and lay structures. The internal audit team works towards improving financial controls and procedures already in place aimed at ensuring compliance with internal and external rules and regulations. As a team member, the post holder will provide first class auditing and advisory service, primarily to branch officers to ensure the integrity of financial records and returns and other internal controls. The post holder will be required to maintain comprehensive working papers and files on all routine and special audits; prepare comprehensive reports with recommendations for senior managers or lay committee on matters of non-compliance, fraud or other financial irregularity using audit evidence.
You will be qualified with a recognised CCAB qualification with proven technical and practical knowledge of internal and external auditing principles and practices. As the role will be demanding, it calls for an individual who has strong proven analytical skills and reporting attributes with an eye for detail; excellent knowledge and understanding of systems to be able to produce and present relevant information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders and the ability to communicate effectively and at all levels. The post holder will be highly organised and able to work unsupervised to meet the diverse demands and objectives of the audit and finance section to strict deadlines.

The Role
The Regional Organiser is the key generic organising role in the region, with responsibility for recruitment, retention and organisation of members.
A powerful advocate of organising and building branch and membership organisation, you will:
- Provide leadership to a group of branches within a locality, service group or work area to ensure that branches have the strongest possible workplace organisation.
- Support, guide and develop branches and activists through major periods of change in the delivery of public services.
- Build branch organisation and performance, identifying training and development needs of activists and providing ongoing support through coaching and mentoring of stewards and branch officers.
- Lead collective negotiations across the range of sectors which UNISON organises at local, regional or national level.
- Represent members individually and collectively, assisting branches to develop systems and processes for managing and undertaking their casework effectively.
- Manage a small team of area and/or local organisers.
The Person
You will have skills and experience that include:
- Demonstrable leadership and motivational skills.
- A track record of using initiative and independence over a broad area of activity.
- Considerable knowledge of an industrial relations environment and a track record of high level negotiation and representation.
- Experience of advocacy in difficult situations.
- Ability to develop strategies, plans and solutions to solve complex problems.
- Ability to work on and manage projects.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and experience of influencing people at all levels.

UNISON is looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and resourceful individual to support our growing organisation.
The successful candidate will bring their experience and skills to the role and be able to develop and deliver recruitment and organising initiatives and campaigns in our branches, train and develop stewards, undertake case work, advise, support and mentor branch officers and stewards in representation and negotiation.
You will have excellent presentation skills and communication skills, both face-to-face and on paper.
A sound understanding of trade unions and their objectives is essential along with a good understanding of UNISON’s policies and objectives.
You will need to be able to travel within the East Midlands region and to London for meetings/training as required
