We are now recruiting for a Volunteer Baker to support our visitor café offer by baking a range of goods which we sell onsite in the café. This role would be remote, flexible and creative.

The museum’s 130,000+ collections, cover the cultural and natural history of the county from 200 million years ago to today. Our Keepers (Curators) are custodians of these collections and maintain and develop these to accredited standards and we require a Collections Assistant to help assist the team in doing this.

Job Title: Visitor Services Summer Assistant (Casual)

Start Date : July 2025
Based at : Discover Bucks Museum, 9 Church Street in Aylesbury.
Discover Bucks Museum is an independent charity which looks after 130,000 objects telling the story of Bucks and beyond from 200 million years ago to the present day. We are looking for casual Museum Assistants – working on a Zero-hour basis to fit in around our peak periods and your other commitments. Most of these shifts will be based between Tuesday – Saturday during the day, but there will be occasional Monday, Sunday, and evening shifts during the holidays and for special events.

What will you be doing?
Based in Aylesbury, Discover Bucks Museum is a busy, exciting place to visit which tells the story of Bucks from 200 million years ago to today. We play an important role in Buckinghamshire, focusing on our amazing collection encompassing archaeology, natural history, art, ceramics, natural history and social history. We also host additional special exhibitions each year provided by externally owned collections and associated special events for visitors and community audiences. One of our priority objectives is to ensure that we offer exhibitions that attract the widest and most representative groups of our local population.
We have recently opened new galleries which provide a fantastic new visitor experience to help tell the story of Bucks with a fresh and modern approach, as well as offering better representation of the lives of different communities. The Museum is also a National Portfolio Organisation with funding from the Arts Council’s new Investment Programme 2023-26 to focus on relevant and diverse community engagement in Bucks.
Discover Bucks Museum’s Board of Trustees is particularly interested in hearing from those with a strong Science education or digital background.
Time commitments – A minimum of 7 Board meetings per year usually in the early evenings, held at the Museum in Church Street, Aylesbury, attendance at sub-committee meetings, usually remotely, and occasional attendance at events and exhibition openings at the Museum .
In addition to being a great team player and committed to leading the Museum, we are looking for Trustees with some of the following experience or knowledge:
• Experience of engaging with teenagers and families to design programmes that will involve them in the museum activities; particularly with regards to the sciences.
• To assist the development of our science- based exhibitions, events and education programmes.
• To inspire the creation of the digital museum of the future.
• Experience of engaging with individuals with physical and mental challenges and designing programmes to involve them in the museum activities.
