About the Role
As a Senior Staff Nurse, you’ll play a vital role in supporting patients and families in the terminal stages of illness. You’ll plan, deliver, and evaluate holistic care, working closely with District Nurses, GPs, and our multidisciplinary team. You’ll manage symptoms, provide advanced care planning, and ensure the emotional, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing of those we support.
You’ll also act as a mentor and role model for new staff and students, helping to raise clinical standards and foster a positive learning environment. In the absence of the Team Leader, you’ll take responsibility for managing the caseload and supporting your colleagues.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver and coordinate high-quality palliative and end-of-life care in patients’ homes
- Manage symptoms and medications, including advanced interventions and syringe drivers
- Provide holistic support to patients, families, and carers, respecting their customs and beliefs
- Liaise with the wider healthcare team to ensure seamless, patient-centred care
- Mentor and supervise Healthcare Assistants, students, and new staff
- Contribute to service development, policy, and clinical audit
- Work flexibly, including unsocial hours, to meet the needs of our patients

Trinity Hospice is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join our Hospice at Home Night Service, delivering high-quality palliative and end-of-life care to patients in their own homes throughout the night.
About the Role
As a Staff Nurse in our Hospice at Home Night Service, you’ll provide hands-on nursing care, symptom management, and emotional support to patients and families. You’ll work closely with District Nursing teams and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless, patient-centred care. You’ll be a vital part of our night team, helping patients remain comfortable and dignified at home.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver expert nursing care and symptom management for patients nearing end of life
- Provide physical, psychological, and emotional support to patients and families
- Manage medications, syringe drivers, wound care, and catheterisation
- Maintain accurate records using EMIS and uphold governance standards
- Liaise with District Nursing teams, FCMS, and Inpatient Unit for continuity of care
- Support families following a death and guide them through next steps
- Mentor new staff and students, supervise Healthcare Assistants, and contribute to team meetings
- Take charge of the shift in the absence of the senior nurse
- Participate in audits, policy development, and service improvement
- Work flexibly across night shifts and rotate to other areas as needed
Shift Patterns
- Early Night: 20:45 – 06:45
- Late Night: 21:45 – 07:45
- Long Shift: 20:45 – 07:45
Includes handover responsibilities at start and end of shift.
What We’re Looking For
- Registered Nurse (NMC) with current PIN
- Experience in palliative and end-of-life care
- Competence in symptom management, syringe driver use, and verification of death
- Ability to work autonomously and make clinical decisions during night shifts
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- IT literacy for electronic record keeping (EMIS)
- Emotional resilience and ability to manage challenging situations

This is a unique opportunity to provide vital support and therapy to clients and Trinity patients, both pre- and post-bereavement, and to contribute to the ongoing development of our counselling service.

- Deliver individual and group therapy tailored to the diverse needs of our clients.
- Manage your own caseload, exercising professional autonomy and judgement.
