Casual Lodge Porter/Receptionist

St Hugh’s College seeks to recruit casual college porters / receptionists to join the Lodge team on a permanent basis. The vacancies available are working ad-hoc shift patterns Monday – Sunday 7:30am – 3:30pm, 3:00pm – 11:00pm & 10.30pm – 8am. The Lodge plays a crucial role within the College community as they are responsible for reception and security for the college. The successful postholder will have general responsibility for efficient and effective running of the Lodge and conducting security patrols of the college. Tasks will include greeting college members and visitors at all times, answering the telephone, radio and email systems.
The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with key stakeholders. They will need be vigilant at all times with a can-do and proactive attitude and drive to ensure a consistently high standard of customer service.

Associate Professorship of Taxation Law
The Faculty of Law, in association with St Hugh’s College, invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the post of Associate Professor of Taxation Law to commence on 1 September 2026. The successful candidate will be both a member of the Faculty of Law and a Non-Tutorial Fellow at St Hugh’s College.
The person appointed will join one of the largest and most distinguished groups of legal scholars in the world. They will have, or be well on the way to establishing, a record of internationally recognised scholarship and research and will be required to provide a high standard of research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the supervision of research students.
In making this appointment, the University and the College share the goal of developing and strengthening the teaching and research capacities and capabilities of the Faculty of Law, as well as contributing, more generally, to the goal of maintaining the University of Oxford as a leading centre for research and teaching in taxation law.

Fixed-Term Joanna Randall-MacIver Junior Research Fellowship in Music
(2 years, fixed-term, full-time, salary £39,424 per annum)
Applications are invited for a Joanna Randall-MacIver Junior Research Fellowship in Music at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, tenable from 1 October 2026. This is a two-year, fixed-term, full-time position, not renewable, and suitable for an early-career researcher who has completed a doctorate. Applications will not normally be considered from candidates who have previously held a postdoctoral fellowship or equivalent post of 12 months’ duration or more.
The Joanna Randall-MacIver Junior Research Fellowship is open to those whose PhD research has been in an area of musicology that relies on historical enquiry (i.e. research that does not include living human participants). The position is not intended for those whose doctorate is in composition or includes significant practice-based elements.
The Fellow will also have associate membership of the Faculty of Music in the University of Oxford.
The primary purpose of this post is research. The successful candidate will be expected to use the period of the Fellowship to build or continue building an international research profile by publishing outputs originating from their doctoral research and embarking on a new, defined research project.
The basic stipend of the Fellow will be at National Pay Spine Point 29/Grade 7.1 (currently £39,424 per annum), progressing to Grade 7.2 in the second year of the Fellowship (£40,514). These figures include the Oxford University Weighting.
The Fellow will have membership of the Senior Common Room (for which there is a small annual charge) and will be entitled to all meals free of charge while working and when the kitchens are open.

Powys Roberts Postdoctoral Fellowship in Modern Languages
Applications are invited for a Powys Roberts Postdoctoral Fellowship in Modern Languages at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, tenable from 1 October 2026. This is a two-year, fixed-term, full-time position, suitable for an early-career researcher who has completed a doctorate or is close to completion and who wishes to follow an academic career. Applicants should not have held a comparable research fellowship previously.
The Powys Roberts Fellowship is open to those working in the following fields, in any period:
- French and/or Francophone literatures and cultures;
- German, Austrian or Swiss literatures and cultures;
- Italian literatures and cultures.
A comparative or interdisciplinary approach to work in these fields is also welcomed. The Fellow will have associate membership of the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages and of an appropriate Sub-Faculty in the University of Oxford.
The basic stipend of the Fellow will be at National Pay Spine Point 29/Grade 7.1 (currently £39,424 per annum), progressing to Grade 7.2 in the second year of the Fellowship (£40,514). These figures include the Oxford University Weighting. In addition to salary, there is a personal research allowance of £969 per annum. The Fellow is entitled to free meals at the common table when the College kitchens are open.

Associate Professorship or Professorship of Philosophy and Tutorial Fellowship
St Hugh’s College and the Faculty of Philosophy are seeking to recruit an Associate Professor or Professor of Philosophy, with a Tutorial Fellowship, to start from 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful candidate will have a research specialism in some aspect of Early Modern Philosophy (up to and including Kant). They will have a proven record of internationally recognised scholarship and research in philosophy appropriate to their career stage, and will be able to provide a high standard of research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
For the Faculty, the postholder will deliver 16 lectures or graduate classes per year, and will supervise graduate students (at Master’s and at doctoral level). The postholder will participate in examining and will play a full and active role in Faculty administration.
As a Tutorial Fellow of St Hugh’s they will also oversee the provision of philosophy teaching to students at St Hugh’s, they will share in the admission and pastoral care of students studying for degrees involving philosophy, and they will contribute to the effective running and governance of the College as a member of the Governing Body and Trustee of the Charity.
For the College, the postholder will be expected to deliver 8 weighted hours of teaching per week during term time, with associated duties. They will be required to give tutorials for both the Moral Philosophy and General Philosophy courses taken by first-year undergraduates in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and in other joint Philosophy degrees. They should be able to teach advanced undergraduate tutorials (second year and beyond) in Early Modern Philosophy, The Philosophy of Kant, or at least one of Ethics and Knowledge and Reality and in at least one other advanced undergraduate course offered at Oxford.
The combined University and College salary is between £57,223 and £76,603 per annum. An additional allowance (currently £3,199 per annum) would be made upon award of the title of Professor. In addition, a taxable housing allowance of £10,905 per annum is paid by the College. The Fellow is entitled to free meals at the common table when the College kitchens are open.
