Volunteer - Gargowan Café
Joining our fantastic team, you will be one of our friendly faces in greeting guests with a warm and welcoming smile as well as giving them an unforgettable hospitality experience.
At the very heart of our new Hospice home, you’ll find Gargowan Café – a bright, light-filled space to relax, refuel and enjoy fresh, local flavours.
Open Monday to Saturday, 8:30am – 2:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Taking food and drink orders for table service
- Serving visitors food and refreshments
- Cleaning tables and general area, possibly including in servery to support catering staff
- Preparing orders for customers and taking payment through the epos system
- Deal with all enquiries in a professional manner and direct any complaints, if
required, to the most appropriate person - Awareness of allergy concerns and basic food hygiene
- Providing an unforgettable visitor experience
- Cleaning down of all equipment and the kitchen servery
- Collection of necessary food items from the main kitchen
- Working within a fast paced environment
- Food preparation in accordance to company spec sheets
- Welcoming guests upon arrival
- Setup of the cafe and servery for the start of service
- Closing down procedures after 2.30pm
- Cleaning schedules and compliance completed daily

Volunteer - Warehouse Driver
Volunteer as a Warehouse Driver for the Ayrshire Hospice and help deliver stock that generates vital income for our shops, directly supporting patient care across Ayrshire & Arran.
Please note: This role requires a full and clean UK driving licence. You’ll also need to be at least 25 years of age to drive our vans and be required to register your driver details on our Grey Fleet portal.
The role involves heavy lifting and handling donations, so a good level of physical fitness is essential.

Online Trading Assistant

Job Summary
Our Online Trading department plays a pivotal role in our income stream and assists in the financial sustainability of the Hospice. As an Online Trading Assistant you will be responsible for the sale of both donated and new goods on one of our online platforms such as eBay, Ayrshire Hospice website and also in person at external events throughout the year
The person in this role will have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels within the Ayrshire Hospice and via online messaging.
You will drive income through careful selection of goods, pricing and effective merchandising of goods online.
This role demands a dynamic and motivated individual and can include lifting and packing heavy items.
Main Responsibilities
· Reporting to the Online Trading Manager, you will support the Online Trading team to deliver the operational retail trading activities online which contributes to maximising the stores income potential through sound business practices.
· Identify and Research appropriate donated items sent in from shops, gathering information such as price, rarity etc
· You will photograph items for sale, edit photographs, list the items on various online selling platforms such as eBay, giving a detailed description of every product.
· Safely and securely pack sold items to send to customers making sure there is no damage to the item during transit.
· Deal with customer queries and complaints via online messaging/email in a polite and professional manner.
· Attend various external events throughout the year selling new goods such as Christmas cards, diaries etc
· You will support the Online Trading team to direct a team of volunteers, in all aspects of online retail activities, Health & Safety standards and fire safety regulations
· The job holder, in addition, will support the achievement of sales revenue through careful selection of goods and pricing and effective merchandising of goods
· Utilise the Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) till system and ensure that it is operated effectively and accurately by supporting volunteers in the use of. Ensure details of all relevant donated goods are entered into the system for stock control purposes and all sales are processed in line with shop till procedures to achieve agreed data capture.
· Undertake cashier role in the collection, recording, receipting and safeguarding of all incoming cash. Supporting the shop management teams in the maintenance of records of all financial transactions retaining paperwork and documentation as appropriate. Prepare all store takings and other cash income for banking on a daily basis, ensuring compliance with Hospice cash handling procedures.
· Support the shop teams with Gift Aid process to enable the recovery of gift aid income from the sale of donated goods, actively recruit new donors, capturing repeat donors and maintaining all personal records in line with GDPR requirements.
· The Job holder may also need to support the shop teams by running a shop to cover absence etc.

Warehouse & Retail Support Manager
30 hours per week
Our shops and warehouse play a pivotal role in our income stream and assist in the financial sustainability of the Hospice. They provide employment and volunteering opportunities, sell a wide selection of donated pre-loved goods, play a significant role in the local reuse and sustainability agenda, and provide a visible presence of the Ayrshire Hospice within our local communities.
As the Warehouse & Retail Support Manager, you will support and coordinate the day-to-day management and administration of all stock and distribution related operations. You will report to the Area Manager and support the operational compliance in our network of eight shops.
You will be responsible for managing and coordinating stock management systems, ensure all health and safety requirements are achieved and costs are controlled and reduced. You will ensure staff and volunteers are trained and supported, while supplying shops with required stock and equipment.
You will oversee the warehouse team to achieve safe working practices and efficient and comprehensive procedures.
You will manage and co-ordinate a delivery and collection service for the distribution of donated goods and new goods stock across all shops, along with managing furniture collection and delivery to customers.
You will build good relationships and work in collaboration with shop managers, to help identify stock requirements for each shop.

Volunteer - Ward Caterer
As a ward caterer, you'll help patients and visitors feel cared for and relaxed, whether it's serving meals or supporting our hardworking catering team, you will make a real difference.

Key Responsibilities
- Socialise with patients and their families, promoting a positive, friendly environment where patients feel cared for and that their needs are important
- Serve patients, in the 12 bed in patient unit, meals and drinks and clear left overs, ensuring that patients are safe and supported at all times
- Liaise with nursing and catering staff about patient’s requirements including allergies, dietary requirements and any personal requirements of our patients ensuring mealtimes are meeting individual needs
- Ensure the patient’s wishes are always at the centre of the care and support ensuring their wants are catered to as much as possible. You will support the team to ensure patients and families requests, where possible, are realised and achieved
- Other reasonable tasks as required by the Catering Manager, in line with the needs of the service
- Be alert and responsive to the individual needs of our patients, especially around mealtimes and highlighting any concerns to clinical staff
- Keep ward kitchen clean and tidy consistent with Clinical and Environmental Health guidelines
