We are seeking a prayerful priest who:
- has a heart for mission supporting the catholic tradition of the Parish under extended episcopal care whilst bringing fresh initiative, vitality and vision to both churches;
- can build fruitful relationships with a range of stakeholders including schools, the local council, ecumenical partners and other organisations to see God’s Kingdom come in an area where there is much need;
- can seek out and engage creatively with opportunities to show Christ’s love in different contexts, including significant areas of new housing;
- will work collaboratively with the existing Team Vicar, Wardens and PCC resourcing the whole people of God for mission and ministry;
- is at ease with a down-to-earth north midlands community, especially with new families whom we would like to welcome into the church;
- will bring a calm good humour to share the joys and sorrows of ordinary people.
The Rectory is a large modern 4-bedroomed house situated in the grounds of Staveley Hall, adjacent to the parish church.
Staveley and Barrow Hill is a parish of the Society of St Wilfred and St Hilda and has passed a resolution under the House of Bishops’ Declaration. The parish is under the extended episcopal care of the Bishop of Oswestry.

The churches seek an enthusiastic, pastorally hearted, missional priest to work with them to:
- Build links and develop relationships with the church schools with a view to partnering with them to form new worshipping communities
- Nurture and disciple church members, particularly through launching small groups, helping them to deepen their relationship with God
- Partner with Derbyshire Rural Chaplaincy to support the framing community
- Support the churches in progressing through the Eco Church Awards.
- Develop new and innovative ways of communicating across the benefice
- Explore sustainable models of governance

- Lead across the Team in identifying and seeking to establish new worshipping communities, with particular attention to non-book culture.
- Support and strengthen existing mission initiatives amongst children, young people and families, including with local schools, developing a Team approach wherever possible and being attentive to the Growing Faith agenda.
- Work with Team Rector to deepen discipleship, strengthening and developing new leaders.
- Work with all team colleagues and PCCs to simplify governance and administration, possibly through pastoral re-organisation, in order to better resource mission and ministry across the Team.
- Build confidence and strength in these post-industrial settings as appropriate, enabling Mission Action Plan goals to be achieved.
The four Parishes that make up the East Scarsdale Team (Holy Cross, Upper Langwith; Holy Trinity, Shirebrook; St Luke’s Whaley Thorns; St Michael’s, Pleasley) were constituted as a Team Ministry in 1994. They are currently resourced by a Team Rector and Team Vicar (this post).
The Benefice is situated on the north-eastern edge of Derby Diocese, close to Mansfield. With a rich heritage of innovation and hard work, many of the characteristics of post-industrial contexts are present here including areas of social deprivation and new housing development.
The Rectory is a large 4-bedroomed house in Shirebrook, close to Holy Trinity Church.
