Youth Worker

Emmanuel Church Canterbury

About us
In recent years Emmanuel Church has been blessed with growth in the number of people coming on Sundays, including young people. During this time the youth work has been maintained by one of the ministers with a Youth Group meeting on Friday evenings covering the age range of 11-18. We are aware of the need to bring in an individual who can invest time, thought and energy into youth ministry and prioritise the discipleship of those young people God has entrusted to us.The role
The heart of this role is to develop and lead the youth ministry amongst 11-18 year olds so that our youth are equipped, discipled, and play a part in our church family. We are keen to employ the right person and so we see this position as being a flexible role both in terms of hours and what areas it could cover. It could be part time or full time, and it could be that it incorporates another area of ministry like community outreach or students depending on the person's gifting and passions. This role may suit someone with proven experience in youth work looking for an exciting next step and challenge. Or this may be an ideal position for someone seeking to begin or explore ministry and there is potential for training to be included within the role.Key Responsibilities
As outlined above we are willing to tailor the role in line with the person applying, but below are some of the key areas of responsibility:

  • Developing the teaching programme and structure of our youth provision as a church
  • Identifying, recruiting, looking after, and training volunteers.
  • Being present on Sunday services to oversee any aspect of youth ministry.
  • Alongside our designated safeguard lead, ensuring best practice in safeguarding and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for all youth.

Required Skills

What we're looking for

  • Someone who above all has a passion for teaching God's word to young people and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Someone who has had some experience of working alongside youth at church.
  • Someone who has strong interpersonal skills and is able to communicate well with youth.
  • Someone with a high level of professionalism and organisation who can administratively oversee the different practicalities of youth ministry.
  • Someone who is an ideas person, keen to try things and take the initiative.
