Location: Aldershot HQ but with travel across North Hampshire and West Surrey.Salary: £27,000 per annum (from the 1st April 2026) for 37.5 hours per week permanent contract.

Step by Step is a charity that passionately supports young people facing challenging times. Our unique approach, providing accommodation, personal development opportunities, and specialist support, helps young people identify and achieve their aspirations.

Each year, we work with over 1,300 young people aged 11–25. Our team plays a vital role in empowering them and preventing homelessness. We are a positive, dynamic, and professional team, committed to helping young people reach their full potential.

Incorporated in 1989, Step by Step has a long history of supporting young people. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting their welfare and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

As a Youth Support Worker, you’ll provide impartial advice, guidance, and support to young people aged 11–25. You’ll help maintain access to services, support aspirations, and uphold our values through community outreach and referrals. A driving licence access to a vehicle and business class insurance is required for outreach in surrounding areas of North Hampshire and West Surrey.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering advice, guidance, and support to young people aged 11–25 on topics such as housing, education, employment, drug and alcohol concerns, and sexual health.
  • Supporting service access and general administrative duties.
  • Helping young people identify and achieve goals.
  • Signposting and referring to other agencies and services.
  • Providing support in person, via phone, and online chat.
  • Conducting outreach work in areas in the Aldershot and North Hamps area.
  • Advocating for young people with external agencies.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Staying informed on relevant legislation and policy.
  • Coordinating internal and external referrals.
  • Keeping accurate records using management systems.
  • Upholding safeguarding and equal opportunities policies.
  • Promoting health and safety practices.
  • Building professional relationships with young people.
  • Representing Step by Step at meetings and events.
  • Supporting condom distribution, pregnancy testing, and signposting.
  • Engaging in ongoing personal development and training.
  • Working independently and as part of a team.
  • Visiting our move on accommodation and supporting the young people and the building facilities .
  • Using Microsoft Office and other record-keeping software competently.
  • Some of your youth support duties will be carried out while stationed at reception, this will involve welcoming and signing in visitors.
  • Must hold a full driving licence, have access to a vehicle and have business class insurance, as this is a community-based role.
