The Children’s Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We deliver essential local services that provide safe, trusted support to children and young people during times of significant need.

This role sits within our Nexus service, which is focused on improving support, resources and access to services for young carers within armed forces families. Your role will be to lead a youth participation programme that safely amplifies young carers’ voices, delivers training and engagement, captures learning and impact, and ensures a lasting legacy through resources, reporting, and a programme website.

We are currently looking for a youth participation worker to join our dynamic, ambitious team.

A key part of this role will be your ability to:

  • Support a programme of youth voice and participation work with children and young people in order that their views and ideas inform the work of professionals working with young carers within armed forces families.
  • Ensure the safe, meaningful, and ethical participation of children and young people within the delivery of this programme.
  • Deliver digital and in person training sessions focused on Young Carers (identification and responsibilities) to engage and educate the sector
  • Run reflection sessions with young people and stakeholders, and collect feedback
  • Support the completion of the programme’s final report by contributing to the analysis and presentation of key findings and recommendations for future work
  • Lead on developing a final legacy website, ensuring that all programme information, outputs, and learning are accessible and well‑presented.
  • Promote the resources co‑created with young people and ensuring these materials are shared widely and used to support continued engagement and impact

The required skills and competencies for this role are:

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and safe practice when working with young people
  • Relationship building specifically related to engaging and motivating young people
  • Knowledge of engaging and communicating with young people and facilitation of group work and one to one activities
  • Knowledge of relevant policy and legislation as it relates to young carers and the armed forces community, equality and people
  • Knowledge of how to undertake good, ethical and meaningful participation

It would also be an advantage if you have any of the following skills and competencies

  • Effective communication
  • Time management, juggling competing deadlines and achieving set targets
  • Presentation and facilitation skills, including events management and producing publicity materials
  • Ability to monitor and record impacts and outcomes of activities
  • Report writing
  • Ability to promote resources
  • Managing the final phases of the project, ensuring all deliverables are met, and embedding the completion and legacy of the project

The Children’s Society runs over 100 local services that help thousands of young people who desperately need our support, and we campaign to get laws and policies changed to make children’s lives happier and safer.

Every day we’re changing the lives of children in this country for the better – and with your help, tomorrow we can be there for even more.

T he Children’s Society is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people we work with. As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, which includes the disclosure of criminal records, vetting checks, and the provision of appropriate references. The number and type of references required may vary depending on the nature and responsibilities of the role, ensuring that each appointment is carefully assessed. We have a comprehensive range of policies and procedures in place to promote safeguarding and safer working practices across all areas of our organisation.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Friday 1st May 2026.

Interviews will be held on a date to be confirmed.
