Youth Minister Youth Minister Job Description Job Description Job Description Full Time Youth Minister Reporting to the Vicar St Mary’s St Mary’s is a large evangelical Anglican church. Our vision is to know Jesus and make Jesus known. Within that vision we have three essentials: Dependent prayer, Biblical teaching and Loving one another. As well as three priorities: Engaging Maidenhead with the gospel, Growing mature disciples of Jesus of all ages and backgrounds, and Partnering with other churches to make Jesus better known. The Role An exciting opportunity to develop our thriving and busy ministry for youths aged between 11 and 18. Currently this includes Pathfinder groups meeting each Sunday, weekly single sex growth groups, Friday night activities, Sunday night ‘after church’ and youth weekends away. We are committed to provide good support and the freedom to shape the direction of this vital ministry. Personal Profile You will have a passion for young people coming to faith in Jesus Christ and growing as his disciples. You will already have experience of working with and ministering the gospel to young people in a paid or voluntary capacity. § A committed Christian with a mature faith in Jesus. § Actively seeking to live in a godly way. § A good knowledge of the Bible, with the ability to think theologically. § Exceptional communication and organisational skills. § Ability to develop the vision for youth work at St Mary’s. § Ability to engage, inspire and teach young people, build trust and gain respect. § Approachable by all ages especially youth and parents. § Ability to deal with the needs of different individuals, understanding when and how to seek additional support. § Ability to lead, manage, motivate and support a large team of volunteers. § Experience of working as part of a team, building and maintaining good relationships. § Ability to self-motivate and manage own workload. § Teachable and eager to learn from others with a proven ability to take direction well. § Resilient, ability to deal with challenges while maintaining performance. § Agreement with St Mary’s theological & Biblical convictions, visions and values. Key Responsibilities Leadership § Set the vision and spiritual tone of the youth ministry. § Recruit, train, encourage, and pray for the team of volunteer leaders. § Develop and execute new ideas and ministries in partnership with key leaders. Teaching § Plan the teaching program for the youth groups and regularly lead them. § Maintain the quality of all teaching by regularly listening to, assisting, constructively feeding back on sessions prepared and delivered by volunteers. § Organise and lead St Mary’s Youth weekends away. § Support leaders in planning the Bible study programme for Youth growth groups. Pastoring § Build relationships with the young people and their parents. § Develop a strategy to encourage every youth to develop their own personal walk with the Lord to live out their faith at school and reach out to unbelievers. § Keep track of attendance and welcome newcomers. § Meet up with young people, particularly when there are concerns. § Ensure good safeguarding disciplines are in place to comply with regulations and ensure the youth remain safe. Leading Leaders § Run training sessions. § Meet with leaders regularly to advise and encourage. § Be aware how each growth group is going. § Identify and train new leaders to fill vacancies as they arise. Students § Organise a time away for students about to head to university to think about being a Christian at university. § Check up with those who have gone to university and then as necessary to offer support. § Seek to ensure students make a connection with a local church whilst at university. Involvement in wider ministries and summer camps § Set a plan for how occasional events (such as Sorted Nano and Sorted) fit into the Youth Ministry. § Ensure that good connections with good summer camps exist. § Publicise camps to parents and young people and encourage individuals to sign up. § Lead on a camp and encourage adults from St Mary’s to be involved in summer camps. General § Be fully involved in the staff team and the church family. § Partner with the children’s minister, congregational leaders and other members of staff to support the broader work at St Mary’s. § Ensure that the Sunday services are accessible to young people. § Encourage families and young people to be a part of St Mary’s events and initiatives. § Seek input from congregational leaders as to how the Youth Ministry can best function as an integrated part of that congregation.
