Make a difference to a young person’s future

Youth Fed is looking for enthusiastic and committed Youth Mentors to join an exciting new national flagship mentoring programme, working directly with young people aged 12–15 in secondary schools across Cheshire, Wirral and Stockport.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build meaningful relationships with young people and provide the consistent, trusted support that can help them overcome barriers, build confidence, raise their aspirations and make positive progress.

You will be based within designated secondary schools, delivering face-to-face, one-to-one mentoring sessions with young people throughout the school day.

Every young person is different, so your mentoring will be tailored to their individual needs. You will work with them to identify their strengths, challenges and aspirations, agree achievable goals and support them to make progress. This could include helping a young person to improve their attendance or engagement with education, develop better relationships, build confidence and resilience, raise their aspirations or reduce their risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).

What you’ll be doing

As a Youth Mentor, you will:

• Deliver a planned programme of one-to-one mentoring sessions with young people aged 12–15.
• Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with the young people you support.
• Help young people identify their strengths, aspirations and barriers and agree realistic goals and actions.
• Use a strengths-based, young person-centred approach to build confidence, resilience, motivation and aspirations.
• Support young people to improve outcomes including attendance, attainment, relationships and wider personal and social skills.
• Provide appropriate information, advice, guidance and signposting to other services where needed.
• Manage your own caseload and maintain accurate records of mentoring sessions, progress and outcomes.
• Work closely with schools, Youth Fed colleagues and programme partners.
• Contribute to the programme’s impact and evaluation activities, helping to capture the learning, feedback and evidence needed to understand the difference the programme makes.

About you

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young people and can build rapport with those who may not always find it easy to engage.

You’ll be a positive and approachable communicator who can listen without judgement, motivate others and provide consistent support while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

You’ll need to be organised and comfortable managing a caseload, recording your work accurately and working independently within a school environment, while remaining part of the wider Youth Fed team.

Experience of working with young people is important, and experience of mentoring, youth work, education, careers, employability or a similar support role would be particularly valuable.

Above all, we’re looking for people who believe in young people’s potential and can help them recognise it for themselves.
