Job Title: Young Carer Service Team Leader
Location: Highland, homebased will involve some travel throughout Scotland
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Salary: £26,781.74 per annum
Hours: 28 hours per week, worked during office hours with the ability to work flexible hours when required including evenings, overnights and occasional weekends
Contract: Fixed term providing maternity leave cover anticipated up until 10 September 2027

Purpose of the role:
• To lead on good practice that will benefit Young Carers throughout Highland
To lead and develop the Connecting Young Carers information, training and support service for Young Carers throughout Highland
To work in partnership with Highland Council, schools and other third sector organisations to promote and deliver on the duties of the Carer (Scotland) Act 2016
• To engage with young and young adult carers aged from 5 to 24
• To lead, approve and oversee events, activities and respite for Young Carers from age 5 to 24
To raise awareness of Young Carer issues and provide appropriate training to Young Carers and professionals
To maintain and develop the Connecting Young Carers website in partnership with Connecting Carers’ Communication Officer
• To lead, approve and oversee consultation events and activities e.g Young Carers rights
• To maintain consistent, coherent and relevant approaches to delivering services for Young Carers

Key responsibilities – What you’ll do:
Main tasks
• The safe, efficient and consistent day to day leadership of the Connecting Young Carers project and team
• To support the team with regular support and supervision
• To be responsible for complex and out of area referrals/cases
To research and produce relevant, up to date information relating to Young Carers and Young Adult Carers
To be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all Young Carers when participating in events, activities and respite breaks
Maintain regular contact with Young Carers by a variety of social media methods including email, text and social networking
Liaise with other relevant agencies and partners to provide opportunities for Young Carers
Signpost and refer (where appropriate) to other relevant agencies
• To develop projects alongside the CEO that will enhance the service
• To suggest service improvements that can be considered by the SMT
To work when required alongside the Grants & Trust Officer to secure long-term funding for Young Carer projects funded by grants such as Big lottery, Robertson Trust, Children in Need etc.
• To lead an ethos of capturing Young Carer voices and evaluation
To support the team to lead on consulting with Young Carers to co-produce relevant funding applications, opportunities for them to shape the services and gather their opinions
• Any other reasonable task required to fulfil the requests of funders and the organisation
Responsibilities
To line manage and supervise the team
To ensure that all events, activities, residential respite and all opportunities for young people are effectively organised, risk assessed, staffed and safe for young people
• To ensure that Connecting Young Carers is actively promoted in a professional manner
• To ensure the efficient and professional delivery of training and awareness raising materials
• To manage and prioritise workload and ensure that deadlines are met
Connecting Carers
• To ensure that the internal CRM is kept up to date, including the development
To contribute to own and Young Carers team development by identifying training needs via Support & Supervision
To undertake relevant professional development activities and training as agreed with the CEO
• To act as the Child Protection Officer for Connecting Carers
To maintain confidentiality within the boundaries of Child Protection, Getting it Right for Every Child and the Highland Practice Model
To comply with Connecting Carers Policies and Procedures
• To work towards your development to become a member of the Senior Management Team
To carry out other non-recurring duties as arise from time to time and occasionally help to cover other centre duties
• To travel across Highland and Scotland as required

Person specification - Knowledge, skills, qualifications and competencies Essential:
Relevant and up-to-date working practice with children and/or young people (preferably Young Carers)
Good knowledge of social work, education and health systems
• Clear understanding of the needs and role(s) of Young Carers
Understanding and knowledge of the Carer (Scotland) Act 2016
Knowledge of statutory and voluntary sector health and social care providers
Experience in a similar role
Experiencing of leading and shaping a team
Uses initiative and is able to work independently, while also contributing positively as part of a team
Strong communication, administrative, organisational and time management skills
• Strong IT skills using Microsoft 365 (M365) and basic digital advert design e.g Canva
Experience of using a CRM (database)/ bespoke inhouse system
Ability to produce relevant and informative information such as service reports, funding reports, Young Carer literature
• Ability to work with Young Carers in a professional, sensitive and person-centred manner
Ability to build effective working relationships
Ability to network with agencies and professionals
Good understanding of social media networking
Working knowledge of GIRFEC and GIRFEYC
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
• Ability to work flexible hours when required including overnights and occasional weekends
• Ability to travel independently (e.g. driving licence and access to vehicle)
Desirable:
• Health and social care/education/ social work qualification or equivalent in experience
• Working knowledge of website design / management and other forms of social media
Knowledge of Google Classroom use and management
