Are you green-fingered and have time to help nurture wildflowers for the restoration of UK Wetlands?

The Wetland Wildflower Project aims to grow and distribute meadow plants of local provenance to enhance the diversity of projects in need of wetland wildflowers to help unlock the power of wetlands. To help our efforts to restore habitats such as floodplain meadows and other wet grasslands, we are looking for volunteers to assist with growing wildflower plug plants in our polytunnel at WWT Slimbridge. This is a great role for those who will enjoy this hands-on work behind the scenes, whilst playing a role in saving wetlands for wildlife and people.

You will be caring for seedlings, plug plants and aquatic plants. This may include seed harvesting, weeding, hand watering, potting on plants for sale in shop and caring for these, as well as preparing plants for orders. There may be opportunities to help out at events, such as plant sales and fairs.

You will join a pro-active team, learning more about plant husbandry and the habitats these special species support. Through your work you will be helping WWT to restore UK wetlands and unlock their powers.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

If you are interested in volunteering for WWT but don't wish to apply online, please email volunteering@wwt.org.uk or leave a message at 01453 891 231 with your name and number.

Just to let you know, some of our roles are very popular. To help our teams and minimise disappointment for people kind enough to want to support us, we might take roles down before the closing date if we get a lot of applications. If you do miss a role, or are looking for something particular, you can sign up to opportunity alerts.

This role will suit someone who is interested in hands-on work, horticulture, joining a mix of people within the team, has good levels of fitness (tasks involve lifting plants trays, using horticultural equipment such wheelbarrows and lifting compost bags) and wishes to contribute towards the cause for UK Wetlands.

We are particularly looking for help Thursdays - Sundays.

Unfortunately this role is not suitable for Under 18's.

We’re WWT, and we’re on a mission to restore the super-powered ecosystems we call wetlands. There’s never been a more important moment for our work, and we’ve got some phenomenal people on the case.

Whether they’re taking a new visitor under their wing, or conducting ground-breaking research further afield, our team are second to none. And there’s nothing we love more than watching them soar.

Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. So, the only question left is, what role will you play?
