Welcome Volunteer | Ideally 2-3 hours per week

National Museums Scotland is currently looking for Welcome Volunteers at our National Museum of Rural Life (near East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire).

We are looking for enthusiastic, honest and friendly individuals to join our Visitor Experience team in making people feel welcome at our unique visitor attraction.

The National Museum of Rural Life is a large site encompassing an exhibition building, playpark, 1950’s farmhouse and a traditional working farm.

We are looking for people who can be a friendly face, to meet our visitors as they arrive, with a warm greeting and information to help them enjoy their visit.

What’s involved?

  • Welcoming people to the Museum of Rural Life
  • Signposting the day’s highlights
  • Encouraging visitors to make the most of their visit.

This role may suit you if you

  • Are interested in Scottish rural life or history
  • Are friendly and approachable
  • Are looking for opportunities to meet new people.

When is it?

Volunteering hours are negotiable. Ideally, we are hoping our successful volunteers would be able to provide us with a morning, lunchtime or afternoon slot most weeks on an ongoing basis.

By getting involved you could

  • Learn more about National Museums Scotland and our work
  • Develop valuable skills and experiences within the museum sector
  • Enjoy doing something you like whilst meeting new people
  • Develop your confidence working with the public.

Welcome Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Please see the Volunteer Role Description for more information prior to applying.

Volunteers are a bridge between us and our community. If you think this is something you would enjoy and can lend some of your time to, we would love to hear from you.
