Lead CPRE’s volunteering strategy, champion diversity, and help build a thriving volunteer movement for the countryside by inspiring, supporting and engaging volunteers nationwide.

CPRE, the countryside charity, is looking for an experienced and creative Volunteering Manager to lead the development and delivery of our volunteering strategy across the CPRE network. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how people from all backgrounds engage with our mission for a thriving, beautiful countryside for everyone.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with staff and volunteers across England, coaching and supporting them to create welcoming, inclusive and engaging volunteer experiences. You’ll identify opportunities to strengthen the volunteer journey, from attraction and recruitment to engagement, voice and recognition, ensuring our volunteering culture is accessible, diverse, supportive and inspiring. You’ll also drive the creation of new volunteering roles and programmes, with a particular focus on widening participation among groups currently under represented in our movement, including people of colour, disabled people, young people and people from working class backgrounds.

You’ll work with colleagues across departments, senior volunteers, and local CPRE groups, as well as external partners such as universities and community groups, and organisations, to build strong pathways into volunteering. You’ll champion best practice, support volunteer coordinators and supervisors, and lead continuous improvement through feedback, learning and innovation.

This role is ideal for someone with proven volunteering engagement lead experience, strong coaching skills, and the ability to build consensus and energise others. You’ll be part of CPRE’s shared services team, ensuring our volunteer engagement capacity matches our strategic ambitions.

We are committed to developing an inclusive and diverse CPRE in which everyone feels supported, valued, and always able to be themselves at work, because we recognise that a diverse and inclusive workforce is important in achieving our vision of a thriving, beautiful countryside for everyone. We therefore welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. People from ethnic minority backgrounds and disabled people are currently underrepresented across the environment, climate, sustainability, and conservation sectors. If you identify as a person of ethnic minority background and/or disabled, we are particularly interested in receiving your application.

Please note that we only accept applications from candidates with the right to work in the UK for the intended duration of the appointment. If you are shortlisted for interview, we will conduct a right to work check prior to the interview.

To apply
Candidates should read the candidate information pack and job and person specification then send in a CV and a covering letter. Please make sure you address the criteria outlined in the job and person specification; failing to do so will mean you will be unlikely to be shortlisted. Please send your completed application, including a contact number, to jobs@cpre.org.uk by the closing date.
