Phoenix Rising International Film Festival (PRIFF) is looking for Volunteer Submissions Coordinators to support submissions and outreach activity.
This is a part-time volunteer role running for 3 to 4 months, ideal for someone with a strong interest in independent film, research, and discovering exciting new voices in cinema. The role sits at the intersection of outreach, curation, and filmmaker relations, and is a great opportunity for anyone wanting hands-on experience in festival operations and programming support.
About the role
As a Submissions Coordinator, you will help identify and reach out to potential entrants whose work may be a strong fit for the festival. This is not simply an administrative role. It requires curiosity, good judgement, and a genuine interest in helping shape the quality and diversity of films submitted to the festival.
You may also support elements of filmmaker liaison, helping keep communication lines open with filmmakers and ensuring they feel welcomed and informed throughout the submissions process.
In many ways, this is a curatorial support role: your work helps the programming team discover strong films and helps ensure that, later on, festival audiences are presented with the best possible selection of work.
Key responsibilities
- Researching filmmakers, productions, and projects that may be a good fit for the festival
- Reaching out to potential entrants and encouraging submissions
- Helping maintain communication with filmmakers in a warm, clear, and professional manner
- Supporting the festival’s submissions strategy across different categories and strands
- Keeping records of outreach and responses organised and up to date
- Assisting with general filmmaker liaison where needed
Who this role is suited for
- Someone with an inquisitive mind and a genuine interest in discovering new work
- Comfortable with research and online outreach
- Strong written communication skills
- Organised, reliable, and proactive
- Interested in film festivals, curation, and filmmaker engagement
Time commitment
- Part-time, volunteer
- 3 to 4 month term
- 1 day per week
- Flexible remote work, with regular communication and check-ins as needed
Although this is a volunteer role, consistency matters. Filmmakers deserve timely, thoughtful communication, and strong outreach only works when approached with care, professionalism, and follow-through.
Benefits
- Free access to festival screenings
- An invitation to the festival awards ceremony
- Discounted tickets for friends and family
- The opportunity to attend the festival in November and see the impact of the work first-hand
