Volunteers are the beating heart and soul
of our much-loved living museum.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway offers a
wide range of experiences for those who love
history, trains, and a unique experience.
Volunteering presents you with the
opportunity to meet new people from all
walks of life. You’ll gain worthwhile skills, and
this can result in a real sense of achievement.
Around 1000 volunteers work in various roles
across the NYMR and they all bring something
unique with them.

OVERVIEW OF VOLUNTEER AND
STAFF ADMINISTRATOR ROLE

DESIRABLE SKILLS

To provide administrative support for the
onboarding, offboarding and maintenance of
volunteer and staff records, ensuring accurate
and up-to-date information is maintained in
compliance with UK employment and data
protection legislation.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

• maintain accurate volunteer and staff records
  including contact details, roles, training records
• process new volunteer applications and
  coordinate induction arrangements
• update databases and filing systems
• assist with volunteer recruitment campaigns and
  events
• support the maintenance of staff personnel files
  in line with GDPR requirements
• assist with processing routine HR documentation
• maintain training and competency records for
  staff members
• handle correspondence related to volunteer and
  staff matters
• assist with preparing reports and statistics on
  volunteer and staff numbers
• maintain confidentiality of all personal and
  sensitive information

• good IT skills including Microsoft Office (Word,
  Excel, Outlook)
• strong organisational and administrative abilities
• excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• ability to maintain confidentiality and handle
  sensitive information appropriately• good
  communication skills, both written and verbal
• previous administrative or HR experience
• understanding of GDPR and data protection
  principles

TRAINING

• full induction to the railway and the role
• GDPR and data protection training
• training on relevant systems and databases
• ongoing support from the HR Officer and wider
  team
•opportunity to develop HR and administrative
  skills

WHERE YOU VOLUNTEER:
Park Street, Pickering Station (YO18 7AJ)

TIME COMMITMENT:
We would warmly welcome volunteers who can
offer any amount of regular time between Monday
to Friday. We’re grateful for any time you’re able
to give, whether on a regular or ad-hoc basis and
hope you’ll consider joining our small team within
the People Department.

UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT:
All equipment will be provided. All our volunteers
dress smartly and appropriately to the role they
undertake.
