Volunteer Gardeners

We’re looking for Volunteer Gardeners to help us keep our roof terrace thriving.

Phoenix is Leicester’s independent cinema, art gallery, Café Bar and creative space. We show everything from indie films to blockbusters, host festivals and events, exhibit work by local and international artists, and run creative programmes for people of all ages. As a charity, everything we earn goes straight back into supporting arts, film and creativity in Leicester.

One of our hidden gems is our roof terrace, The Nest – an outdoor seating area filled with container plants and greenery.

About the Role:

You’ll be part of a small, friendly team of volunteer gardeners, helping maintain our roof terrace. Dependent on how much interest we receive, this could be one or two teams, meeting weekly or fortnightly on a Monday, Thursday or Friday morning.

Tasks may include:

• Watering, planting and weeding
• Helping care for the container garden
• Keeping the terrace tidy and free of debris
• Looking after gardening tools and equipment
• Following simple health and safety guidelines

You might enjoy this role if you:

• Like gardening or being outdoors
• Have basic plant knowledge (or are keen to learn)
• Are happy doing light physical tasks like lifting, watering and tidying
• Can work independently but also enjoy being part of a team
• Are reliable and able to commit to a regular weekly slot

All Volunteer Gardeners will receive a free lunch in our Café Bar on your volunteering day.
